"Serial" began in 2014 as a spinoff of the public radio show "This American Life." In 2017, we formed Serial Productions when we launched the podcast “S-Town.” Since then, Serial Productions has produced every season of “Serial” along with shows like “Nice White Parents,” “The Trojan Horse Affair,” “The Coldest Case in Laramie,” “The Retrievals” and more. In 2020, we joined the New York Times Company. Our shows have reached many millions of listeners and have won nearly every major journalism award for audio, including the first-ever Peabody Award given to a podcast.

    Spread of Misinformation
Ridiculous podcast that does nothing more than spread disinformation based on opinions rather than facts! It’s disgusting!

    really, guys?

    Good content
And a whole lotta vocal fry. The Rutherford county season is so important, and I hate to mention any personal issues I have with a person’s voice. But here I am, doing just that. I’m having to push through to listen and learn.
  • RaineS23
Congrats on doing THE MOST to misinform.
You helped set a proven murderer free. No one else could have done it. Adnan is guilty and a murderer is walking free. And we haven’t even seen the true test of him living safely and non violently in society until he goes through another breakup.

    NYT Ruins Things
Confusing move because I feel like Serial was created in the spirit of spreading important information to the masses and NYT chooses to restrict access. Feels icky.

    Paywall?
Serial, with a paywall? Seriously guys? Undo this please!

    SEASON 11
The content in season 11 is shocking and important. But the speaker was SO pretentious and asked the most asinine questions in the face of these women’s stories. She goes “hah” as the women and then crafts her voice to sound profound and concerned, but she sounds as fake as Meghan Markle in her Netflix show. Serial suffers from its inconsistency in the varied narrators that report. Season 11 just oozes the pomposity that people love to hate about liberal culture. PLEASE STOP

    Shockingly misinformed
A podcast built off lies and misinformation. Digging into your emotions and taking advantage of true injustices to push an agenda and claim innocence of true and proven criminals. Absolutely shameful and disgraceful

    Well crafted and great storytelling
I found this to be a tremendous listen. I was very familiar with the story but still learned quite a lot. The author and narrator were pleasant to listen to. Episodes were crafted efficiently and effectively. I would recommend this story to anyone. It forces you to ask yourself questions without beating them over your head. Well done!

    It’s changed
Was a huge fan of season 1. The next several were hit or miss, so moved on to other genres. Came back around and was disappointed to find it all behind a paywall, including the OG season which I was going to relisten to while traveling. Paying for an 11 year old pod season? Hard pass.

    Paywall
I enjoyed serial, but with this latest season going behind a paywall is not for me. There are so many good podcasts I can listen to for free. Subscriptions for everything these days are ridiculous. I’ve cancelled a ton of subscriptions recently because they are out of control and I won’t be adding this one.

    Season 12
The narrator’s voice in season 12 is unbearable. The vocal fry and pulling of the last word at the end of every sentence, I couldn’t get through episode 2.

    Paywall No Thank You
Season one was the first podcast I had ever listened to. I was shocked to see that recent episodes are for paid subscribers only. No way not for me. Bye Serial

Wanting the truth out so badly…
… that they’ll make you pay for it. Honestly disgusted by putting these stories behind a paywall that has anything to do with something other than the Serial brand. Not interested in The NY Times as an organization at all. Hopefully this isn’t a pairing that lasts long.
  • Lolnatalie
    Greedy
Shame on you for removing all of your previously free content behind a paywall. The absolute greed of companies trying to nickel and dime people into 1,000 subscriptions.
  • MeEvans13
Thanks for listening, now pay us!
I loved this podcast and enjoyed all their seasons! I even got others to start listening. It's too bad they are asking for payment now. There are other great free podcasts out there so bye !

    Subscribers Only?
I’ve been following this podcast for years and I ready enjoyed it. I had to unsubscribe today due to the pay wall. Sad.

Must provide them with your data to listen
Heads up. You can only become a subscriber if you first download the NYT app which collects and tracks more data than most apps, including financial info per their privacy statement. I’m willing to pay for a subscription but not hand over my data in perpetuity.

    Paywall
Great writing but NYT paywall 🙄
  • jtamsda
    Boo
Will not pay, so done with this. Shame too, it was good, but giving you access to half the season is lame. Either all or nothing. Too many shows are chasing the money train. Adds are fine but subscriptions are ridiculous.

    The Good Whale
Loved the podcast, skipped the musical. It’s not you, Serial, it’s me.

    Paywall bummer
Bummer to finally get to episode 6 and there’s suddenly a paywall!
  • random38482047-0;7
    Another excellent season.
Once again, the serial crew does an awesome job telling the story. And I really did like the fifth episode. I thought the music was sad and sweet just like Keiko‘s life.

Season 13 - The Good Whale
Another excellent Serial season but what the heck with the musical episode?! Please don’t do that again.

    Swing and a miss
the Good Whale is the least engaging season of Serial, including its offshoots, since season 2 (Bo Bergdahl). Nothing about it is told compellingly or engages me even lightly. Disappointed
  • TheJOB_2011
    Love the variety and quality
The most recent series about the Keiko the killer whale is incredible and concise. Great research and information. Par for the course with this whole production team.

    Amazing Job
Beautiful thought provoking story, told with honor and pizazz

Now over $300 a year to access
I really liked this show but since The New York Times bought it, to listen to a full season you need to subscribe to The anew York Times in order to then pay for a subscription for the podcast. At $325 a year alone for just New York Times this is just not an option. I am sad to see such a great podcast become inaccessible to everyone but techbros who have money to burn.
  • nsbehicbdjks
    Used to like this podcast.
I will not support the Times, their part in this genocide on Palestinians is vile and deplorable. They will be tried for this. Just no. I’m shocked you’re still riding for them. They have killed more Palestinians with their lies and backwards reporting. Words mean things. It’s a genocide. F the Times.

    Just Stop
With every season we get more and more of the biased anti-American agenda. Tell both sides and then let us make up our own mind. It feels like they had to edit it that way to make it “more exciting” because they knew the truth would never be as captivating as the ever elusive season one. Sigh. Time to finally unsubscribe.

    Wonderful
This is a great listen. Like all serial episodes. Interesting, responsible and captivating. Highly recommend.

    Pay to Play
The show was great before you hid it behind the paywall. Now you want to nickel and dime us when there are millions of podcasts out there. Thanks, but no thanks.

    Pay Wall
Wow another subscription… feel my hatred through the screen…

    Season 12
You would think that there would be a vocal coach or someone to tell the host of season 12 to make some adjustments; could not get past the first episode. So incredibly annoying given that the story itself is so powerful.
  • Ell144
    Season 11
This was a heartbreaking, but important story regarding pain management and medical malpractice. I understand the paywall is frustrating, but I appreciate the in-depth journalism and it was well worth the knowledge I know have. This was absolutely gut wrenching to listen to, but so important to bring awareness and acknowledge how women's pain is dismissed by doctors time and time again. It absolutely disgusting when one of the patients informed the doctor that they had given her IV solution and not fentanyl they did not investigate nor provide proper pain relief after the fact during an egg retrieval surgery. The doctors and nurses at Yale dehumanize their patients and disregarded their pain along with redirected blame when they failed to report and investigate. Outstanding journalism and cohesive story.

How do I subcribe to serial
  • Soli1987
    Not working
I’m a subscriber but the latest season is not available. Fix this!
  • b0tar-b0tarsson
    Move to sub, terrible.
I was hooked after the first episode of the first season of this series. That season put me on to this series and luckily I had listened to the whole thing before the shift behind the paywall. I went to show a friend the first season and much to my dismay only the first two episodes are free. I cannot express enough how terrible subscriptions are for society as a whole. Why do we have to subscribe to everything? You’re limiting the access to information by putting this information behind a paywall and thus only allowing people willing to shell out their hard earned money access to it. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Super disappointed and will never listen to this podcast again.
  • GLikestoKnit
    Done with Serial
Between the vocal fry and now shift of episodes behind a paywall I am done
  • Photographe74
I wanted to be all in but …
Sarah Koenig set the bar for smooth narration, with no annoying vocal fry, but why the narrator of Season 12 puts an affect on their voice, I don’t know. There’s no need for it. I truly did want to listen to this season, but I just can’t get past that vocal fry. Shame
  • XY@@60
    Magical
The story of Keiko and the team of people dedicated to rehabilitating and rewilding him is amazing and utterly absorbing. It contains truly magical moments. Serial has created an indelible character in Keiko.

    Not working
I’m a subscriber but can’t listen to the latest season.
  • Agm0904
    Nope
Ads and now you have to subscribe? Not worth the money, especially to a publication that’s really a mouthpiece for propaganda. What’s real journalism anymore?
  • samgrace15
    NYT is a menace
absolutely horrific behavior retroactively moving so much of your content behind a paywall when it’s been available for free for years now
  • kylen faye
    Great Season 13!
Serial does it again with a lovely season 13 about Keiko.
