The Beerists Craft Beer Podcast

761
Food #119

Every week, John Rubio and his co-hosts, Grant Davis, Pam Catoe, and Mark Raup, meet to taste, discuss, and judge five different beers from all over the world. Part beer appreciation, part drunken comedy, it’s the only beer podcast the A.V. Club calls, “consistently illuminating and amusing.”

    As a fellow Is/Was fan...
Ngl, I've loved this podcast for YEARS and yet as a trans d*ke I never expected a bunch of Texans making gen*tal*a jokes would give two cents about someone like me loving the art and craft of beer. I'm relieved and thrilled to hear a moment of transparency as far as my humanity. Cheers to the Beerists from Chicago! Making the least asinine, uppity beer podcast there is! (W/ exceptions for all podcast episodes elsewhere feature Mike Schallau)

    Beer, not Trump
Wanted a beer podcast; only seconds in they started talking about Trump and J6. No thank you.

    Not for me
Maybe I need to listen to more than one episode ~ but I am not. Too much small talk and f bomb language. I wanted to hear more about the beer. It’s the presentation. If you like off topic discussions and poor language this show is for you.

    Love this show
As someone who never used to listen to podcasts, my friend introduced me to this show, and I’m so glad he did. This show is great. The interactions between the hosts is superb and I’ve actually gotten insight into beers I may have never tried before. Love the humor as well. 5/5.

    Cringe
I feel like every time these dudes make a sexual joke, they are all staring at the one female on the show if it’s not already directed towards her. 2 stars because I love beer

    Wow!
I’ve been listening to this podcasts for about 6 years and it’s wonderful. There have been a handful of cast changes but that hasn’t removed any of the charm. Definitely not for kids but you knew that already right?

    Gone downhill.
I really enjoyed the show for many many years. Unfortunately, it’s kinda gone downhill like our political system. The show has become stale. Although host has come and gone, the format has stayed the same.

    Wow! Big spender!!
Probably the best compliment I can give this podcast is that even if the episode covers a beer style I’m not a big fan of, I listen anyway for the stories (“Wow! Big spender!” had me crying). The episodes all feel like I am having beers with friends, and especially loved the 500th episode drink along. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys drinking beer. Cheers!

Just found this podcast about a week ago
I’ve already listened to a bunch of episodes and I’m already addicted. These guys do a great job at describing the beers and giving their honest opinion. I would recommend this podcast to anyone that wants to try new beers and likes craft beers.

    Incredibly entertaining and insightful
Rubio, Grant, and Mike are the perfect trio for this beer-centric podcast. Beyond their very specific beer reviews that are in-depth and diverse, their consistently entertaining banter throughout makes for an enjoyable experience.

    Wonderful beer. Wonderful people.
Rubio, Grant, and Mike have a talent for performing detailed breakdowns of beer. Their analysis will really help beer fans put their appreciation for the craft into words. The podcast is an excellent blend of entertainment and education. After listening to a few episodes, the Beerists will make you feel like a part of the gang, and you will be hooked.

    Listen, love, learn…….drink
Amazing episodes, I’m going thru the Cicerone Certifications specialty exams now and the level of detail and descriptors of beers you all use is absolutely amazing. I legit learn something on every episode.

    I like it but...
First of all, I think this is a really good podcast for getting to know different types of beer, learning how to taste for different flavors, and generally pretty entertaining. I’ve listened to a few different podcasts and genuinely enjoy them. However, I just listened to the Hey Arizona review and the host used “retards” in conversation as an insult and that’s not something I’ll get behind or support. Won’t be listening again.

    Is Grant Great Again yet?
I had a 5 star experience after Rubio’s mustache lured me into a white van. 10/10 would recommend.

    Poor podcast
Boring banter. Not funny. Mundane beer reviews. Not a fan.

    Beerists
I love the show and they turned me on to some good beers in the Atlanta but can only take Grant a little bit of the time. Because he thinks his jokes are funny but come across offensive sometimes.

    F**k brokenyeggy
The Beerists are one of the most knowledgeable podcasts about a subject I’m not too familiar with. Having not one, but TWO cicerones, on the show, along with a manager of a craft beer brewery. Amazing show week in and week out.

    7th grade humor
If you like beer and 7th grade humor this is the podcast for you. All the host are pretty annoying to the point I can’t listen to this anymore. Gave them 4 chances and they couldn’t win me over.

As good as your favorite beer!
Each week, Rubio, Grant, Laura and Mike review 5 beers with great descriptors and nuance. They give enough information that has allowed me to elevate my beer enjoyment. They crap all over each other and it’s like hanging out with your stoopid friends!

A must listen for beer fans
If you love beer and comedy this podcast is a must. The beer reviews are thoughtful and informative and worth the listen on their own. What truly makes this podcast special, though, is the interaction between all of the beerists. They all bring a unique perspective and humor to the podcast that shines during their reviews. Part educational and informative beer review show, part social comedy, this podcast has everything and I can’t stop listening.

    Love this Show
Rubio is a complete -- of a knight. Laura is incredibly knowledgeable and a delightful addition. Mike is absolutely hilarious. Grant has grown into a true beerist. His palate is most similar to mine. Whether you like beer, or just need some friends while in quarantine, this show is for you. At one point the Beerists joke about who would ever listen backwards through their catalogue… well I have, almost twice. It's an adventure. Episodes 6-420 are amazing. But I can’t get below episode 5. As you get further in the past it get's so jumbled. That one is like hitting myself with a hammer over and over again and then eventually more with the fork bit too until my brain matter is all over the place. I bring that up to show just how far they have come. Anyway, I love everything these guys do now, 5 stars. And they have clearly grown into one of the best podcasts on the internet. Rubio’s love of food, cigars, beer, and editing is absolutely infectious. Favorite episodes: Cypress Grove Chèvre, Big 300, Mikerphone Brewing. Rubio, you want a music suggestion? An Easy Way to Fall in Love with Craft Beer
I had just started to completely dive into the larger world of craft beer last year, so on an April road trip to SC, I decided to find a beer-centric podcast that would interest me. Luckily, the catchy Beerist’s logo drew me in and I listened to about 4 hours that day, and still listening every day since. Thank you Grant, Mike, Rubio, Laura, and Anastasia for expanding my palate and giving me a world of beer to escape to every week. -Henry III

    Da Beers ists
Been listening for years and always mean to leave a review, but I’m terrible at doing remembering to do stuff like that. So here we go! They’re good. Listen to them.

    Sweet Beer Podcast!
Came across this podcast a few months ago and immediately became obsessed! I’m a craft beer enthusiast and love listening to y’all! Mike Lambert rocks!
  • jillsag
    My one complaint
Is that they don’t list the beers they try in the show notes! Why?? Ten minutes into the review I’ve forgotten the brewer & beer.
  • Echo Wingman 77
    Knowledgeable and hilarious
These guys are the real deal. They know their beer and are ridiculously funny. The only problem is their contagious love of beer has left me broke.

    A new voice!
Both sad and happy to hear a new voice on the cast. Thanks for filling them big yellow Crocks Laura haha

    Mambo #5
Just last week I finally got Mambo #5 stuck in my head from when Anastasia sung it in the St. Elmo’s episode awhile back. Then it struck again. Even though I have loved listening, in turn I though a one star review was in the works for that ill fated, near catastrophic moment. Then I remembered that loser that gave you a one star review (even further back) since you didn’t like Miller Lite and how badly he got ripped apart. I didn’t want to be that loser, or bring you down by giving you one star, so here’s the five you deserve. Keep doing what you do.

    Great listen every week!
I started listening to these guys a few months ago, and I can't get enough. They hit a perfect balance between colorful banter and well-worded tasting notes and beer reviews. The hosts have such a great dynamic making them a joy to listen to with their, often times, vulgar banter, Grant's racism, Rubio's disgust for his co-hosts, Anastacia's "creatively incoherent" tasting notes, and Mike's sadness and overall hatred for everything happy in the world. All around informative AND entertaining. 10/10. #grantsracist

    Fun, Informative, and Hilarious
Every week is an adventure listening to the gang talk beer and tasting notes. Love the banter and crap talking. It’s just a fun listen... and informative. My general and tasting knowledge for beer has increased quite a bit just from listening. Give it a shot! You won’t be disappointed!

    My favorite podcast
I started listening to podcasts in August of 2018 and found this one in November of 2018. In February I decided I needed to hear them all so started listening to the 2012 podcasts. It’s interesting to hear how you guys have changed but even more so how much you have remained yourselves. I just finished the Grant Malt Liquor podcast and I’m not sure I have ever laughed so hard in my life. Keep up the great work

Best podcast I have ever listened to!
This is by far, the best podcast out of the 30+ podcasts I subscriber to. I really wish I were local and could join up with these guys when they do their weekly podcast, so I could partake and enjoy my drunken stupor with such a fun group! Keep up the awesome work, it makes the long work day that much better! Edit: On a later note, I like this show so much, I felt obligated to joining their Patreon. Their content if well worth the cost of a few good crowlers so go support these guys!!!

    Love this show
Love you guys and this podcast. Just started getting in depth on my craft beer lifestyle with bottle shops and breweries and this podcast is perfect. The balance of funny and informative stuff is great

    The best podcast ever!
Best podcast on the internet! I went through the effort to find my itunes account from like 2012 just to write this review. Seriously though if you like great beer and great people(minus grant) you need to listen to this podcast today!

    Great show
Some of my favourite drinking buddies that I’ve never met. If you’re just getting into craft beer or looking for info, this is the show.....and always entertaining. ~ Sláinte

Boo ! Host is actually the worst and they don’t even drink good beer
    Quit!

    Thanks for the great shows
I just wanted to thank you for the great show. It has broadened my view on craft beer. I live in Alabama so there isn’t too much I can find that y’all talk about but I am trying new styles I normally wouldn’t have just to try to test my pallet. Keep up the great work.

    Best Podcast
I am so happy I found this podcast. Their description of the different brews is great and they are genuinely funny. I now listen to their podcast every day at work and wish I would have found this sooner. Keep it up!

    Hooray, Beer!
Got turned onto this podcast a couple months ago, and have already burned through a bunch of older episodes, and eagerly wait for new episodes every week. Even if you aren’t that into beer it’s a hilarious podcast regardless. If you are really into beer, it’s a breath of fresh air listening to people break down beers without being overly pretentious or bias.

    Never Fails
Great show with a dark mix of racism, tears, sweat, and beer. The knowledge is great on its own, but with the 4 completely unique personalities, this show is worth listening to every week even if you don’t drink beer. Keep on.
  • danalexander114
    Great podcast
This is my go to listen on my commute to work. I love how you guys keep it real when it comes to describing every beer you drink, but you’re not afraid to get goofy (especially as you get to the fourth or fifth brew)...keep up the awesome content!
  • David_Howell
    Great podcast!
I’m not sure why there aren’t more reviews, but this show is great! The hosts are extremely knowledgeable about beer and, even more importantly, are entertaining! I think you would like this show, even if you didn’t care about the beer aspect, just because these guys are so funny!
  • ImitationSason
    Such a Great Listen
Really love these guys and all the work they put into their podcast! Conversations are lively and they do a great job of describing each beer they have.
  • Alec Pflaumer
    Great Podcast
Whoever had the idea to get some friends together and drink beer in front of a microphone for an hour at a time and call it entertainment is an absolute moron but I’ll be damned if it’s not one of my favorite podcasts right now. I love listening to this podcast at work so I can drink vicariously through the hosts and guests and put beers on my to-try list. The way you all analyze beer has given me the tools and terminology to experience and describe beer like I never had before. This podcast is much more effective and a hell of a lot more fun than clicking around on ratebeer or beeradvocate when exploring the world of craft beer. My request: do a gluten-free show! My fianceé says she doesn’t like beer and I want to change that but she is unable to try anything new due to the fact that we recently found out that she has celiac disease. It would be fun to round up some beers we can enjoy together and try after I hear all of your takes on a couple GF brews yourselves.
  • Matt Tubby
    Great show!
I love the insightful and humorous conversation! I look forward to listening each week! Rubio, I’m with you, Grant’s puns and Harry Potter references can die. Thanks and keep entertaining! Matt Tubby

Smart folks but not really my style
I have only listened to 1 episode (Rare Bounty), so take this with a grain of salt. These folks obviously know their stuff and it’s great to hear a beer podcast where they don’t like everything they try. Enjoyed the reviews and some of the jokes. Wasn’t big on the making fun of people’s names or voices, or some of the other stuff, so won’t subscribe. If that’s ok with you, there’s plenty to like though, so your mileage may vary.

    Beerchachos
My most listened to podcast of all time. I’ve been working though the older episodes, episodes pertaining to breweries or locations I’m familiar with, and newer episodes for a few months now and I’ve been thoroughly impressed from the start. A mix of humor, drunken tomfoolery, and on point beer description has kept me coming back for more. Ive learned a lot in tuning in to the show. I’ve been able to expand my vocabulary to describe the beer I drink and broaden the scope of beer to look out for. Keep doing what you’re doing and let me know if you’re looking for any Ohio brews. Cheers, Alex Del Valle.
