    The best
Katie is deeply knowledgeable about all aspects of writing and teaches us in easy to understand lessons. The fact that this is free to us learners is an incredible gift. I thank her from the bottom of my heart

    Absolute Rubbish!
This writer talks about the “simplicity” of story structure and then proceeds to blabber about it in the most tedious, ways. They also claim that story structures should be a “reflection” of life, and yet they forget that life is experienced diversely, no in a singular way…and then they proceed to sell you their book on writing! LOL! What a scam!

    So much good advice
This podcast is great for any writer who is looking for some short, approachable episodes to hone their craft. Weiland has dedicated hundreds of hours to helping give advice on every writing topic imaginable. Even if not every bit of advice will apply to every writer, there is going to be something for anyone

    A teacher
Lot of material out there for this retired write-for-fun guy, but Ms. Weiland presents it on an authoritative level. Plus her books are pretty good, too.

Burnout is real. In this episode about six ways to come back from being burned out, Katie offers useful insights and practical exercises. She cares for the whole writer. I appreciate the scope of her content that reaches heart, mind, soul, and spirit of this author.

    Invaluable wisdom, powerful encouragement
Although I work in a completely different writing genre, Helping Writers Become Authors has become my most valued writing guide. Weiland’s wisdom is instinctive, theoretically solid, and grounded in years of her own disciplined work as a writer. This podcast is as comprehensive as a college course, as engaging as a Ted Talk, and as delightful as a cup of tea with a friend.
  • CAMP06
Refreshing and easy to listen to
Weiland is brilliant at breaking down complex writing concepts and serving them up in bite-sized pieces. The tone is straightforward and not gimmicky, which I appreciate. The length of the episodes is perfect.

The best place to learn about writing
I’ve been an avid fan of K.M. Weiland since I saw her referenced on the “Lessons from the Screenplay“ YouTube channel. Now I think I own all her books, and I am always eager to absorb her insights. This lady eats, sleeps, and breathes story, and I have learned so much from her!

I love this podcast! It helps me to consider aspects of my writing I wouldn’t otherwise have considered, in an easy, clear format.

    Invaluable
I did not go to school for writing, I am writing my first book and I’ve learned a ton about the craft of writing, but I wish I would have discovered this podcast sooner! I didn’t know there were other story arcs besides the hero’s journey 🤦‍♀️ Turns out my story has never fit into that mold because it fits perfectly in the Maiden Archetype! Weiland covers a large range of topics, I love how episodes are 20 minutes or less, easy to to digest, and best of all, the transcript is online. When I want to take notes from an episode, I simply copy and paste, instead of handwriting my notes. Highly recommend!

KM Weiland- you are a savior!!
I don’t know what I would do without this extremely helpful and intriguing podcast. I can’t say how much I appreciate hearing from another God-following writer who is deep inside her own career. There are so many good tips and tricks in this podcast- from archetypes to plotting to getting over writers block. I am learning so much about writing and my future as I listen, and I cannot wait for more episodes in the future. Thank you KM Weiland- you are amazing!

    My Favorite Writing Podcast
I’ve listened to a handful of other podcasts out there and this has by far been the best one! The concise episodes are full of so much knowledge that I can actually apply daily to my first draft. If there’s a snag while writing (which as you know there can be many) there has always been an episode to reference which helps solve the struggle! Thank you so much for this amazing resource!

    Tremendous Guidance on Writing Craft!
KM Weiland remains the best resource for writing craft on the market. I continue to look at both new and existing books and blogs and podcasts, and her site is by far the best out there. she is thorough, meticulous, terrific at bringing together others’ ideas under a single topic, and easy to understand. if one were to read all her books and blogs and listen to all the podcasts, this is equivalent to at least a masters level degree in creative fiction writing. All that’s left for the reader is to spend the time and put in the work.

    Clear, Concise, LOVE IT
There are few frills on this one in the best way possible. Just information well delivered in shorter, digestible increments. Bravo K.M. Weiland! Thank you so much!

    Mostly very good podcast
I listen to many podcasts on writing. And I love most of them, including this one. The only critique is that some of the episodes go way too far into the woods on opinion and philosophical psychology and character and gets way too complicated on unnecessary info. I think those episodes could bog your story down more than help. But if you find the episode about something specific you want to learn, it’s usually very very good info and concise. Those episodes are little snacks of scrumdidliumptious knowledge.

    Super helpful to new writers
There are a ton of writing podcasts but this one has consistently stayed in my top two favorites. Great relevant material that can really help just about any writer. Just listening inspires my creativity. I owe this podcast so much for how much I’ve learned in the last year. Thank you so much!

Value! This girl gets to the POINT.
So many podcasts, about writing or anything else, take so long to get to their nuggets of value. Weiland doesn’t waste a word. I appreciate her appreciation of my time lol. Thank you for the free wisdom, and thank you for knowing how to edit. Much gratitude!

Nearly half of each episode is useless
Each episode is really short, which is one of the things that drew me to listen, but the first several minutes of each episode is rambling and self promos, meaning that each episode is only about 2-3 min of useful material. What is there IS useful, but as I like to binge shows while I work I’m left feeling like every 3 minutes is another 2-3 min advertisement.

    Writing class on the go
If you’re like many of us listening. You are looking for more than “tips” on writing. You’re. Looking for practical and in-depth understanding of the writing process. This podcast does exactly what it promises. Turning writers into authors through thorough in-depth teaching. K.M Wieland is a master in relaying the information in a easy to listen to manner. It’s well structured and there is no filler. Thank you thank you thank you!

    Truly deep
I’ve listened to all of these podcasts, sometimes more than once, as I’ve traveled my path of writing my first novel, and then my second. These are the kinds of lessons you’ll want to come back to again and again, as you mature and deepen your understanding of story.
  • Oraxis
Masters Level Material for the Layman
This show gets technical. It can come across as dry at times — I believe K.M. reads from a show script — but I don’t think she would be able to cover as much territory if she didn’t take that approach. Some writing podcasts are full of heart, with multiple hosts and guests engaged in casual banter, or waxing poetic about their personal struggles and victories. This is not that kind of show, and I appreciate it for what it is. Granted, she does share her personal journey, but the show remains the most clinical and academic of all the writing podcasts I have tried so far. If you’re a “pantser” you may be turned off by her unabashedly structured approach, but I would still recommend the podcast for the purpose of putting seeds in your mind about character building, plot, and other essentials which will bloom during your pantsing.

    Great Content for New Writers!
As I write my first novel, this podcast has provided (and is continuing to provide) great, relevant content and guidance to the writing and outlining process. K. M. Weiland skillfully offers detailed insights into outlining, character types, development of theme, word choice, and so much more. In particular, I love that the podcast can be read in blog form on her website (in case I want to study her points in more detail), and that she often presents a step-by-step or well-organized bullet-pointed process to her ideas and knowledge. This makes her keen wisdom easily transferable to new writers like myself, who are trying to navigate the new, rough waters of crafting a good story. So glad I found this podcast, and I can’t wait to hear more!

Solid content, and lots of it
When you stumble on a podcast more than 500 episodes in, it's already going to be what it was meant to become. And you'll be coming into a conversation that's been going on for quite a while which challenges the listener to know where to begin. In the case of this podcast it's a lovely and fascinating conversation, filled with great and inspiring ideas about writing. K.M. Weiland's delivery has a nice, upbeat style that is easy to listen to. My only tiny quibble is that very few episodes go by where she doesn't mispronounce a word or two, even though she almost always uses that mispronounced word correctly (see interger and Patreon for two examples that immediately come to mind).

    Love this podcast
K.M. Weiland’s wisdom helps us grow as writers as well as humans. Highly recommended!

Thoughtful content, but not always easy to access. Not for beginners.
This is a good podcast. The instructor is very knowledgeable and she has clearly given A LOT of thought to the content she produces. The issue with this podcast is that it is relies heavily on jargon and assumes a high level of baseline knowledge. The way she moves through content suggests that she assumes you have listened to enough of her previous podcasts to know what the second plot point is and where it falls in your story and what it needs to include, for example. That should be easy to fix by listening to old podcasts, but there is not easy way to search them by subject. And there aren’t clear on-ramps to access her content. It’s not organized in a way that makes it easy for a new listener to drop in and get up to speed. If you are newer to writing, check out her books. They are much more helpful to new writers, IMO. Again, a good podcast. But it’s definitely (if not necessarily deliberately) geared toward experienced writers and has a steep learning curve.

    Helpful advice
Every time I’m starting or finalizing a plot or a whole book, I like to listen or re-listen to many of these episodes on craft to make sure I’m hitting all the beats and plot points correctly. Extremely helpful podcast. I also like that they’re quick and to the point.

K.M. Weigland was recommended by a fellow writer and I consider her one of the best instructors I’ve come across to date.

The host knows her stuff really well and I’m happy there is also a blog with this so it helps me get that priceless information down. Thank you for this!
