    The best book podcast!
I look forward to this podcast every week. I am a long time fan of Charlie Gibson and love his banter with his daughter Kate. They cover a wide variety of books and I have read many that I wouldn’t have otherwise picked up had they not featured it on their podcast. It’s fun and funny and informative.

A Great Look at The Great Gatsby
I loved the episode on The Great Gatsby! It’s one of my favorite American classics, and I enjoyed the scholarly insight on Fitzgerald and the novel! Keep more episodes like this coming!

    My Favorite !
I listen to several podcasts and many are book related. However, this is absolutely my very favorite! The interviews with a such a wide variety of authors sets this apart from the others. Your questions are intelligent and I never cease to learn something new. Many of the books you present have been a selection in one of my book clubs and believe me, I often cite something interesting from the interview! Thank you for keeping this so interesting!

    Tone Deaf on Toobin
As a devoted listener and personal promoter of the show, I was very surprised and disappointed to see that Jeffrey Toobin is this week’s featured author. His marital infidelities with a young woman, replete with denied paternity, was arguably nobody’s business until the outrageous act he committed in front of several young colleagues. His defense “I didn’t know my camera was on” should be laughable to anyone who’s ever been on a Zoom call and even if true, is a meaningless justification. I had thought that “The Bookcase”--especially comprising a father/daughter duo and, I would bet, a mostly female audience--would be a respite from the excusing and celebration of famous men who see no reason to curb their sexual appetite under any circumstance. How unfortunate to learn this is not the case.

Best Podcast PLUS A Christmas Carol
I can’t begin to tell you how much I adore this podcast. The interviews, the familial conversation, the laughter, the discussions with authors (and yes, book nerds is an acceptable appellation) but when you added an episode featuring my all time favorite book, I squealed with joy. I’ve been reading A Christmas Carol annually since 1979—and to be honest, I often read it multiple times in a year. Dickens achieved so much with so few words. No other book hits so many emotions so well. I still remember the first time I read it and how delighted I was with Dickens’ prose in lines like “… as close to it as I am to you and I am standing in the spirit at your elbow.” I’d never read anything like it and I still delight in every word no matter how many times I read it, listen to the audiobooks, or watch the movies. More classics please!!!! I’d love to hear other classic favorites get this treatment. Oh, and I’ve already decided that This Christmas Carol episode will be an annual (at least) listen for me. I can highly recommend a fabulous companion book. It’s out of print, but worth a search: The Annotated Christmas Carol by Michael Patrick Hearn—which explains all the phrases, puns, jokes and words that have fallen from modern usage as well as illustrations, and so much more.

Loved the episode about A Christmas Carol. Would enjoy more episodes about classics or just older great novels.

    More Classics Please
It’s a great idea to sprinkle in episodes about classics. The possibilities are endless.

    Christmas Carol
Yes please, more episodes about classics, but only ones you recommend. If you agree that Ulysses is not a ‘must read’ I don’t need an episode about why.

    Loved the Classic Revisit!
Yes, loved the classic revisit. Please keep doing it!

Love the show and the new format
I’m an avid lifelong reader, always looking for a new good read, so I enjoy this podcast series very much. It’s not just because they talk books but also the conversations with authors. I just listened to the Richard Osman interview and it really exemplifies the best of the podcast. As usual I wanted it to go longer. I feel that way about many of the podcast interviews. Editing to add that I very much enjoyed the special episode on A Christmas Carol. Although I had read it, I have had that experience of being so sure I already knew, and just wanted to chime in that it is well worth reading. Also hope there will be more such classics revisited. The Three Musketeers, maybe?

    A Christmas Carol
Loved this episode. Please do more episodes like this on classics. Inspired me to read the work since - after listening to you - I realize I have probably never actually read it either. Also, my local bookstore suggestion: Walls of Books in Cornelius, NC (a suburb of Charlotte).

    Favorite podcast!
This is my favorite podcast. The goofy banter, the passion for books, hearing authors talk about their process…it’s all a delight. I recommend The Book Case so much I am sure my friends and readers are tired of hearing about it! As a novelist, I love hearing about the novelist’s process. I loved the Dickens experts. Kate and Charlie, your passion for words and stories and books meets mine and makes me happy. Thank you!

Absolutely love your podcast. I am a retired librarian and faithfully listen to your show. I am familiar with most of the titles and authors but enjoy hearing their take on their books. I am constantly requesting the titles from Libby (library app) and am never without a book to read. Thanks for sharing your podcast with us all. Keep up the great work!

Great way to add to my “to read” list
I have been following this podcast since the beginning. I enjoy it so much. I have learned about books and authors that otherwise I would not be aware of. It’s fun listening to the thoughts and process behind the books. Sometimes Kate and Charlie are a little goofy but their interview questions are wonderful and well prepared.

    Niall Williams really is magic!
Thank you so much for your wonderful conversation with Niall Williams. I had already begun reading Time of the Child, but after listening to your podcast, I realized I was not reading it with the devotion it deserved. My eyes were opened to his beautiful choice of words and sentences that deserve to be read aloud as poetry. I fully intend to add him to my list of must read authors. I always enjoy your podcasts. I especially enjoy your conversations with independent book store owners. I have followed several of them on social media, and have been introduced to many good books and authors as a result. Ann Patchett’s Parnassus is a particular favorite. Thank you so much for what you do and how well you do it!

You’re making me want to read!!
Charlie I have loved you for at least half of my life and now I’m totally enjoying your podcast with this fun and funny person who just happens to be your daughter! Your last on air partner, Joan London, was also pretty awesome. Thanks for all you do with that great voice and chuckle! Your forever fan Cristie

    Author Recommendation
I love the podcast. Of course I had to start from the beginning and am still catching up. If you haven’t already interviewed Louise Penny, please please please do so. I am in love with Armand Gamache series and the colorful characters of Three Pines. I have read every book of the series. Never stop asking the rapid fire questions because they give a such a wonderful personal glimpse into the author. Your podcast has influenced my book selections especially outside of my true love of mystery.

    Variety!
Love that the hosts are willing to try new things and respond to listener suggestions, like the Spoken word poetry episode. I thought that was really neat. The hosts ask great questions which leads to interesting conversations. Appreciated hearing from poets that are publishing with Button Poetry as I have listened to those poets for many years! As well neat to hear from the “behind the scenes” from the Botton team!

I look forward to my Thursday drive to work every week because I get to listen to this podcast. A review and request😊
I am really enjoying this podcast and having the opportunity to listen to authors I admire and being introduced to new authors I’m eager to read. I hope that Louise Penny will be a guest soon! Her Armand Gamache series is so well written and her characters have become beloved by her legion of fans. I have learned so much about Quebecs history and have been moved by her lyrical writing. Please invite her to be your guest. She will not disappoint!

    Please continue Horror Series
This is a fabulous podcast Thoughtful, intelligent discussion and questions with the authors. I have found so many new books and authors. It has been refreshing to hear Charlie Gibson again as he has been missed since retiring from GMA. It is wonderful hearing him with his daughter on this podcast. I especially love the horror series. Please do not conclude the horror series. Do not underestimate the genre. Perhaps Joe Hill would consider being a guest???
