THE ONLY REASON I COME ON THE PODCAST APP!!! ABSOLUTELY EMPOWERING
Dear Patrick, I really hope you read this šŸ„¹šŸ„¹ Iā€™ve been listening to you for yearssss sir. Iā€™m 21 years old and I appreciate you taking your time to do this for us. Itā€™s sooo empowering! Like words canā€™t explain how much I enjoy your podcasts! Iā€™m definitely one of your weekly listeners, I get excited every time an episode comes out. When I was in the worst part of my life I just listened to your podcast and I learn. I take everything off my mind and just listen. Iā€™ll be fully honest with you. I went to my doctor a few years ago and told him that Iā€™m very active, that I eat well and I exercise five times a week. He told me he canā€™t prescribe me anything to lose weight, but he did prescribe me your podcast. HE TOLD ME ABOUT YOU. If only he knew how much Iā€™ve been drawn to this show!!! This was probably better than anything he could have given. A lot of stuff on here I knew, but itā€™s always a good reminder. I learned a lot too. But I usually would listen to this right when I wake up. It just gives me a nice clear head. And it feels empowering. No other word to describe it better. Iā€™m so happy happy you keep making episodes. Iā€™m grateful šŸ„¹ I might look into coaching one day because I want to compete. Not necessarily to win but to feel good that I tried !!!

    Life Changing!
Dear Patrick, I ran the Oakland Marathon this morning. It was my 10th marathon, and by far my most enjoyable! The course was a visual delight, the weather was perfect, and the crowd and volunteer support were amazing! But what made this marathon even better was that I ran it fasted. No gels, weird stomach issues, or the simple ā€œyuck factorā€ of gel-after-gel through months and miles of training, and the 26.2 on race day. What a relief! When I laid out my training schedule for this marathon, I really took to heart all your advice about becoming a fat-adapted runner. So instead of setting a finish-time goal, I instead set the dual goals of becoming fat adapted and running this marathon fasted. I am so glad I set these goals and am so grateful for your expert guidance and motivation to help me achieve them. This has been truly life-changing!! I feel like Iā€™ve been given the keys to the castle! I feel like I know an incredible secret and only a few people know it! I feel like I've been given a "super-hero" power! I cannot believe I could run a marathon without eating beforehand and I take in zero supplementary calories during the race! But way more important than that, thanks to you Iā€™ve learned an entirely new way of eating and training that keep me satiated every day all day, dropped 15 pounds without even trying, and have finally gotten off the blood sugar spike and insulin response roller coaster Iā€™ve been on my whole life. I adopted a mantra you mentioned on your podcast, ā€œThis is who I am, this is what I do, this is how I live my life from here on out.ā€ I now have this mantra emailed to me once a week, and it is such a good reminder. I am 56 years old, and even though I run, bike, and swim regularly, I still struggle with extra belly fat (not too much, but enough to be annoying for how often I work out). I also have been noticing a higher than normal fasted blood sugar value each year on my annual bloodwork that has me concerned. I followed your advice and read ā€œThe Obesity Codeā€ by Jason Fung (Iā€™ve since adopted an intermittent fasting practice), and also practice some of the hacks offered in Jessie Inchauspeā€™s ā€œGlucose Goddessā€ and her extremely popular and informative Instagram posts. I feel like these efforts have made all the difference in my blood sugar spikes and correlated hormone responses. Iā€™ve never felt more healthy and energetic in my life; my mood is overall better and my brain fog is gone. It probably doesnā€™t hurt that I also stopped drinking alcohol (another inspiration from you), originally as a ā€resetā€, but now I haven't had a drink in nearly four months and Iā€™m not looking back (ā€œThis is who I amā€¦). I try not to put myself out there too much to friends and family what Iā€™ve been doing, because the usual responses I get are: ā€œWhy would you deprive yourself like that?ā€ or ā€œThat sounds terrible!ā€ or ā€œYou donā€™t need to lose weightā€ (which, by the way, weight loss was never the primary objective, but itā€™s a nice side effect). Also people tend to turn it back on themselves and offer all the excuses about why they arenā€™t doing more to take care of themselves, or how ā€œluckyā€ I am to be able to eat whatever I want because I run so much. For anyone who really wants to know, I will of course share what Iā€™ve learned and how well itā€™s been working in practice. The crazy thing about all of this is it seems to be the "magic bullet" everyone seeks for health. How could it possibly be this easy, work so well, not cost any money, and have no negative side-effects? Now that I know how it works, it seems absolutely "bananas" (as you would say) that more people wouldn't jump on the fat-adapted bandwagon and/or adopt a diet strategy to get off the sugar roller-coaster. And now that I know about it, it's one of those things I can't unsee. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you immensely for sharing all of this on The Running Lean podcast. I look forward to listening to you each week, and have several "favorite" episodes I return to from time to time. You are providing an incredible gift to the world, and I can say you've honestly changed my life! Lots of love, my friend! And I hope to someday meet you in person. I've added the Flying Pig Marathon to my list of future marathons, so hopefully I will run into you there, if not somewhere else before then. Thanks again! SO good!
You have been listening to Patrick for about two years now and he just keeps getting better. Episode 168 Dealing with Criticism explains exactly why I love Patrick's point of view. He is real, down to Earth, and an open book. If you want honest advice without the fluff that will inspire and guide you on your journey, you came to the right place. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the world Patrick!

    New lease on life
I found this show as I was adding exercise back into my life. Patrick was coaching about being fat adapted and I realized that he was describing exactly what I had been experiencing over the last few months, but I was stuck. I wanted to start running again after a decade of laziness and over indulgence. Following Patrickā€™s advice in the podcast and in the Facebook page helped get me over the plateau. I am loosing weight again and I have run two 3 mile runs in a few short weeks. I am now planning to run a 1/2 marathon all thanks to Patrickā€™s coaching found in these podcast.

30 minute episode with a 5 minute advertisement promotions himself
Whatā€™s the point of the podcast giving information if you say the first step is adding you as a coach?

    Running Lean Review
Having listened through the first 45 podcasts I can say I am eager to continue. Patrick McGilvray is an extraordinary communicator regarding his experiences and self-improvement research. His podcasts include key expert guests digging deeper in critical self-improvement mental aspects. Running Lean title might be miss-leading as ā€œrunning subjectā€ is only the stepping off point to much more research and experience presented by Patrick and his guest.

    Infomercial for Patrickā€™s ā€œBrandā€
Iā€™ve been listening for a couple years and find the podcasts mostly devoid of useful information. Episodes start with Patrick luring the listener with the hope for better running, diet, body, etc only to finish with ā€œif youā€™d like to get there contact me for one on one coaching!ā€ An infomercial at best.

    Life changing, introspective podcast!
I recently discovered this podcast and the content presented and the method shared is absolutely awesome! Patrick is really great, not only at sharing running related performance improvements but at life related lessons, as a life coach. Itā€™s all very inspiring and I canā€™t stop binge listening to all the episodes!!! Thank you, Patrick.

    Running Lean
Iā€™ve listened to almost all of the Running Lean episodes and no matter what the topic I always learn something thatā€™s applicable to me. I find myself looking forward to Fridays to see what this weeks topic is.

Running Lean is easy to understand and it works.
This podcast does a great job explaining complex subject by using every day terms. The podcast uses updated studies in science nutrition debunking a lot of methods. The vast information is out there for all of us but Patrick takes all the information and gives the Cliff notes and it works for me. I read a nutrition food labels in an entirely different way. I eat entirely different and it works for me. My hunger pangs are gone over the past 2 months. I feel full, losing weight without some crazy calorie counting, and I get my nutritional needs. Keep the great work up! You are my nutritionist for exercising. Best Lance Isaacs

I get that the intention of this podcast is partially focused on weight loss, but I started listening with the hope of getting tips for becoming a better runner and fueling my body well for the sport. The host implies time and time again that weight loss is equatable with self-improvement, and that not losing weight is a sign of weakness and not trying ā€œhard enoughā€. This kind of talk encourages disordered eating and eating disorders. Itā€™s 2021, read the room!

    Thanks for all you do!
Hi Patrick. I just finished listening to your interview with Latisha. I started listening or found your podcast during the pandemic. Her story was amazing. I quit sugar after hearing your story and I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks I actually started running in the late 70ā€™s with my dad. Iā€™m 63 now and hearing encouragement is needed no matter how long you run. The good thing about getting older is many times Iā€™m the only person in my age group so I many times place Hereā€™s a fun story. My first 10k I wore my cutoff blue jeans shorts because I didnā€™t know what people wore for running. Keep up the great work and thanks for all you do!

    A must listen for runners!
I found this podcast when searching for a podcast for runners with an emphasis on diet and nutrition. Patrickā€™s topics each week were just what I was looking for to improve my running performance. I also worked with Patrick as a personal coach. I was able to take my running to new levels and learned from Patrick that I could do much more than I thought was possible as a runner in my early 60s. Thanks Patrick for your commitment to the running community and providing these weekly podcasts that are fun, inspiring and full of tough love when I need it most!

    Super awesome podcast
Iā€™ve been listening since last summer and find so much inspiration from this podcast. Iā€™ve actually listened to many of the podcasts twice because there arenā€™t many ā€œgreat podcasts ā€œ out there. So many of them sound monotone and rehearsed.... not this one... Patrickā€™s passion comes through and his sincerity. Iā€™ve learned soooo much too!...journaling, mindset, food, fasting and of course, running. Iā€™m impressed that a Patrick shares so much knowledge for free!... The Facebook group is also worth checking out! I enjoy the Sunday ā€œliveā€ videoā€™s too! Again... so much you can learn on this podcast!

    Not just about running
Iā€™m a 49 almost 50 year old male, quit smoking 5 years ago. Never really thought about becoming a ā€œregularā€ runner until I found this podcast, itā€™s not only about running! Itā€™s about a lifestyle. Love it, and Patrick interacts with his listeners on different platforms.

  • SnapDragon4948
Sneaky Podcast that only exists to Market Personal Coaching/Training
Would not recommend, unsubscribing. It's a great premise which is why I listened to a few episodes. Tons of runners get into running to lose weight. They start training for a half marathon or full marathon and they come to realize quickly that they're not losing the fat that they expected to lose in spite of the incredible effort and time put into working out. Been there, done that. However, this guy spends a full third to half of each podcast trying to sell himself, and his training/coaching. I subscribe to other running coach podcasts and they take just a minute or two to mention their services, then they move on. They get to the content they want to address. This podcast is the opposite, it's thinly veiled that the content is just a precursor to try to get you to buy his services. In addition he's frankly kind of repetitive and monotone. After you've heard one or two of the podcasts you keep hearing the same sort of things being repeated over and over again. As for his tone, each podcast sounds like an ad for Calm - the app that gets you to sleep. Try some inflection, try expressing some passion and excitement, running, fitness, and nutrition is really awesome life-changing stuff. Maybe have guests on, clients, something to vary up your format. If you really want to build a following, and have a community, try to make it worthwhile to subscribe for the long haul without just making it seem like your listeners have unwittingly fallen into something akin to a MLM or timeshare presentation

    Iā€™M NOT ALONEā€¦
For along time I asked myself the same questions of why canā€™t I lose weight if I run everydayā€¦. I have talked to trainers, doctors, etc and not one of them told me or suggested that it could be my hormones.. I found Patrick on FB and starting listening to his podcast and found incredible information and have found that I am NOT alone in this struggle. Patrickā€™s information is on point and has worked for me and I am on my way to being a fat adaptive runner. Thank you Patrick, you are amazing!! I look forward to listening to all your information. #youralifechanger

Fresh take on an overwhelming subject for the average Joe.
Patrick does a great job informing his audience about the abundance of information available pertaining to running, nutrition and mental stamina. Whatever your nutrition standards are for endurance, Patrick gives a fresh perspective on the overwhelming amount of information available for you as a runner pertaining to nutrition choices. He breaks down all the complex subjects and without judgement gives alternative options to help others run leaner and longer. I consider this podcast, whether intentional or unintentional, my Jiminy Cricket of podcasts to set me on the straight and narrow when I feel myself getting off course in training. Endurance sports are a battle of the mind and spirit but Patrick has a way of calming the storm...and kicking you in the butt too :) Keep up the good work and give him a listen!
