One of the top 3 most intelligent intellectuals alive today.
David Frum is without a doubt one of the most brilliant public intellectuals of our time. His encyclopedic knowledge of history, politics, international relations, law and just about any subject you can imagine is breathtaking. Every time he speaks you will learn something new or see an issue from an angle you never thought of. This doesn’t mean he is always right—but good luck trying to find someone who has managed to foresee virtually every escalating crisis of the Trump years since 2016 while also being vindicated again and again when it comes to his warnings for the Democrats during those same years—from immigration (2017 Atlantic main feature article) to Biden’s cognitive collapse, to the war in Ukraine. There is not a single other voice in the country’s discourse who adds more value or more insight than David Frum.

    Great Pod Cast
David, For us pessimists and people blessed or cursed with foresight, it would be great if you could do an episode on how Americans can move to Canada and become Canadian citizens. All is lost here. I don’t belong here anymore. “Only the village idiot thinks he belongs” Emil Cioran Issues: how hard is it, Healthcare, Canadian MAGA count, rents, pro and cons, can I just move there and live without citizenship etc….. I’m a city person so I’d move to Toronto. Also in Toronto, I could go to Buffalo for my medicare if need be. And most important, I could watch my beloved Bills & Sabres

    O Canada
Thank you for your eloquence. My mom was a Canadian and my dad an American. I grew up on the Ontario border along the St. Lawrence River and lived on both sides as if they were home. I'll always love Canada.

    Intelligent & Insightful
Great podcast—well edited and despite the disturbing topic (modern American politics and life) oddly comforting. Love the questions at the end and the respectful and thoughtful responses.

Honest effort to look under the surface of current affairs with an aim for the reasonable person inside all of us.

    Excellent Sensibility
It’s hard to find a political podcast without the screaming and drama. This one is the sensible one. It’s straightforward and Frum provides insight and great guests who deliver facts. Heard Frum on my other favorite, The Bulwark, and I’m glad I checked it out.

    who are we preaching to?
well, done, Mr. Frum! I have heard no one examine the arguments put forth by the Trump 2.0 administration regarding tariffs more plainly and effectively. Now what needs to happen is that needs to trickle down, in even plainer language, to the population that doesn’t normally listen to The Atlantic podcasts. We can hope those folks will be triggered by their wallets, but it might help to engage them conceptually as well. IMHO, your greater mission is to create a more direct pipeline so that these sorts of arguments can speak to people in ways they care about and understand. That can be done. And if that is done, then people won’t have to continually feel such dismay about why so many people moved to the Republican/MAGA side in November…. because those folks elected Trump. We need a better pipeline.

    Great New Podcast
As always. Frum’s intellect is indeed impressive. Rahm is a great guest, but someone needs to coach him up on the term “own goal.” He repeatedly said “on goal.”

    Fascinating and important conversations
After listening to the first 2 episodes I’m so excited about this show. I’ll be recommending it to friends.
  • LBJ all the way!
Deep thinking is in short supply. Thank you for a bit of it.
David Frum has an understanding of the broad, deep, and troubled water that threatens to destroy the Pax Americana and our liberal democracy

    Charlatan Circus
No one cuts through the charlatan circus of Donald Trump better than David Frum. Powerful ideas well defined and defended. Honest debate.
  • Xxyzzzy
    It’s Congress’s fault
Great show, along with Frum’s appearance on the Bulwark. Only missing piece is that everyone including Frum is ignoring the responsibility of Congress to rein in Trump. We should not let Johnson get away without tying him very tightly to Trump’s actions. Yes, the judiciary is slow but Congress could stop it quickly and chooses not to. It is a choice. One that very few in this country have today. Their choice to let it happen means they’re just as responsible.
  • Hawley/Danforth
    Honest
Liberal here, been a fan of David Frum since he wrote the endorsement for Hillary Clinton. I may not always agree 100 percent however, have found him intellectually open honest, always.

Just listened to you and JVL. What a great discussion. All the reasons and rational for a global economy are so on point, tiny nickel screws to the folks that make the machines that make these tiny nickel screws. Most people do not recognize the micro industry’s that it requires to produce the smallest of the pieces that make the product. It’s like the story of the chicken that tilled the soil, that planted a garden to grow the corn, to make the flour to make the,,,Please keep speaking to the world about these issues that are so vitally important. Thank you.

Medical Injury & Do No Harm
Please also talk about medical injury. When someone is injured, disabled or even killed, through a surgery gone wrong, a "mistake" or other prodound harms caused through medical injury, what happens when we are too damaged to sue? Why doesn't the system have built in safeguards to see what went wrong and at least correct it so as not to similarly harm others? Please address this! Thank you ~ Please medicine that remembers ~ the first rule is Do No Harm

Drop what you are doing and listen to this podcast.
The inaugural episode was characterized by a prophetically insightful commentary from Frum followed by a tell it exactly how it is interview with Rahm Emanuel. If subsequent episodes are even half as good as this one, it will continue to top my list of podcasts.
  • Hopeful Midwestener
    Brilliant and incisive analysis
David provides both a comprehensive and clear-eyed perspective on the current political moment, incorporating historical context and a dose of levity. It’s essential listening.

    Great Show, Much Needed
Thanks for this. I always learn from David Frum. He often introduces perspectives that I don't hear from other analysts. He has a wide, factual understanding of many issues. Plus, he is courteous to those with whom he disagrees and upholds standards of civility throughout. As he said as a guest on another podcast, he had hoped to pare back his policy analysis work to pursue more personal goals for a while but is deferring that to later, considering the public turmoil these days. Thank you, Mr. Frum. We need your insights.

    A Thanks
I would like to thank David for his commitment to American ideals over these past several years. Many years from now, when David's obituary is written, there may be a paragraph or two dedicated to the "Axis of Evil" speech he wrote. But if there is any justice in this world, there will be many more paragraphs dedicated to his tireless defense of liberal values during the Trump era.

    Timely and timeless wisdom
David’s understanding history is second-to-none. And while grounded in that reality, he offers positive answers to difficult issues with modesty and wit, not just doom-grousing.
