CheshireJWTime to sign up for PatreonThis February I started a hunt for a new paranormal podcast since I was already caught up with my others. During my search saw Troy’s name and knew this was the one since I’ve long been familiar with his books. I was right the stories and Cody’s effort to make grim stories not so dark adds to a great combination. After two months of only listening to this podcast I’m finally caught up. Guess it’s time to listen to more content from them on Patreon

LauracreeThe best History and Paranormal podcast - EverHi! I just wanted to say I started listening to you all after my friend, who is from Alton - recommended your first episode to me and now I am hooked! I look forward to hearing each new episode. The most recent season I love, because while not a horror movie fan - I love hearing about the basis of most “modern” horror movies and being able to discuss them with my husband, and “educate” him on the facts lol. I’m looking forward to getting some more of Troy’s books soon , and Cody , this podcast? Fantastic idea! I hope you both have a great day and keep up the amazing work!

Bluroz1989Love American Hauntings!I very recently found American Hauntings and have been binging it for the past couple of weeks! I absolutely love it! I live in far Southern Illinois so it really interests me to hear about my area . I also love the format of the show. Thank you guys for bringing our spooky area to the podcast genre so well! Read many of Troy’s books in the past, but my eyesight has gotten so bad I’ve had to give up that hobby unless I can listen to the books. Have the day you deserve guys. New fan!

The Night StalkrDisappointedI’ve held out hope that things will get better but things only get worse with each new episode. Candyman was little more than a history lesson on urban blight (with a healthy dose of bleeding heart rhetoric thrown in) and is supposed to have inspired the movie but what was recounted bore little resemblance to it. Of course Taylor explains it away by saying they are only loosely (emphasis on the word loosely) based on actual events. I gotta say this episode (as well as American Hauntings itself) is a bit of a downer. It was all tragic this and tragic that. And I had a hard time connecting it to the movie which, by the way, I didn’t really care for. I mean there was a supernatural aspect in the movie but nothing supernatural in the events that inspired it. The producers wanted to make a horror movie and chose to use the injustices of minority urban life as the backdrop for it. Which they got criticized for by the way. You might be saying to yourself, why do you keep listening then. Well, I’ll tell you. When this podcast started, it was good. So much better than it is now. The stories were more on point about hauntings but, more importantly, the hosts conducted themselves with civility, professionalism and a bit of joie de vivre. They were polite, did not try to alienate anyone and kept the comments focused on the subject at hand. But alas, over time, this has changed. Comments now are all over the place, they are crude and sometimes belligerent when they speak. Profanity is rampant. Perhaps the time has now come to part company and go our separate ways. I prefer civility and decorum and the “hosts” seem more at home in the locker room.

WikdRedSeems well researched but…the music playing in the background. Why? Considering the podcast itself, this music is out of place and so repetitive. I had to stop listening because of it.
-
M AppealDesperateWow! They are so desperate to get “good” reviews that they are now offering bribes for them. A bad review is like a tick under the skin to them so now, if they like a review, it will be read on the show and the loser ( I meant winner) will receive a prize. It’s a good strategy I have to admit. There will be plenty of pathetic souls out there who will crave the attention and gush over the episodes. But it’s just sad really.
-
UeueyrhrEhhIt’s okay! A good filler show between my other podcast. Some episodes are interesting but Troy comes off arrogant and interrupts Cody non stop. To the point I scream shut up sometimes. I like the movie review episodes but it becomes unbearable to listen to him talk over Cody.
-
rwrea22The Exorcism of Emily Rose and DemonsDefinition of DEMON: see Albert Fish, demons don’t have to be supernatural. Great job on both podcasts! Sorry, I don’t use a secret code name. Rick Rea

srthompson917Love the history behind the hauntingsThis is exactly where to go to get the history behind the hauntings and mysteries! Troy and Cody have a great back and forth asking the questions you didn’t even know you wanted answered. I’ve set it to download and it is my weekly go to! (I also have the Patreon!)

Designer-ZenI can read Wikipedia, too!I can read Wikipedia, too! Word for word! They also don't know what it's like to be a victim and obviously hate women. These guys spend an insurmountable time with teenage banter after every narration. What a waste of my time!

Lady GalahadImmediately HookedI was searching through podcasts after catching up with Mr Ballen and Mr Ballen’s Medical Mysteries, and after trying a few, I stumbled on American Hauntings. I clicked on a random episode, because it sounded interesting enough, and I was immediately hooked. I love that the first half is telling the story, and the second half is kind of “going behind the scenes.” Definitely recommend for anyone interested in the dark side of American history!!

WmsloneGreat show premise spoiled for me by off topic banterI tried getting into this show, it’s a topic I want to hear stories about and am eager to find a good podcast on. Each episode I’ve listened to starts with a well written story segment which is immersive and gripping, but that’s usually only a quarter to half the episode. What follows is a lot of off topic banter and just talking about the podcast itself more broadly. A lot of “we’re doing this event here at this time”, “this episode was fun to make because it harkens back to another episode we made”, “last season we talked about x which you guys liked so that’s why we wanted to make this episode”, like it’s just general podcast meta that totally takes me out of the show. I get that you have to plug your projects a bit, that’s okay, and involving your audience is a good thing. But maybe get it out of the way in the first ten minutes of the show and then give us a whole show about the stated topic. I still haven’t heard any substantive discussion of the episodes topic after the brief story section at the beginning (unless it’s pertaining to one of the hosts books which they obviously have a lot to say about), it just seems odd that so much of the show is devoted to off topic chit chat. Moreover, the ads and ad placement are jarring and make this a show you just can’t go to sleep to. I don’t hate it, it just feels like missed potential. The writing is clearly good but the show suffers from disproportionate off topic banter vs substantive story/discussion. I actually do enjoy good banter and discussion when it’s on topic, just not when it’s mostly about the “state of the podcast” or other unrelated topics.

PockmynoseThank youThanks guys and Merry Christmas to you! Wonderful storytelling. Best.
-
BurntToastGhostExcellent content!Absolutely love your show. I listen and relisten often, and it still draws me in. I am always looking forward to new seasons and episodes, and can’t wait to read Mr Taylor’s books. Thank you Cody and Troy for getting me through some rough nights.

tiffy61682❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️Just recently I have discovered this podcast! I am still binging and am currently on season 5, yea the sound has become much better! 😉. Growing up in a town close to Decatur I’ve been a fan of Troy for years! I have recently dug out my Haunted Decatur book and my 10 year old has been reading it. We are both very excited about listening to and reading more of the podcast and catching up on his books! Troy and Cody are amazing together and I find myself smiling and even laughing while listening! Keep up the great work guys!!
-
BigfootCa28AmazingThis is the most interesting podcast, I love the podcast and how it explores the haunted history of different cities. How they found what is the truth and what is legend.
-
Woodstock FrankBig fanI was looking for a spooky show and came upon your podcast. I’m on season two and am hooked. I’m ready to drive down to St. Louis to explore! I’ve been to a few Cubs/Cardinals games, but have not ventured out to the city, except for BBQ in Soulard. I’m looking forward to the following seasons.
-
Me in Middle TNMore story, less gabThe stories are okay, they could be longer. Less gab about the beer you’re drinking and all the other nonsense would make me stop hitting the skip button.
-
Rooney711From a fellow feral childI’ve been bingeing the podcast . And love it.the only thing I hate is that I’m almost caught up and will have to wait for new episodes.
-
Geoh8504All caught up!!Found this podcast about a year ago cuz I was looking for something spooking/history driven to kinda fill in time when other podcast that I listen to are on a break between their season found some boring ones that I couldn’t follow along but you’re guys podcast had me hook from the first episode. Planning on getting some of Troy’s book really soon and hopefully some day I can get to go to the dead of winter event or the conference!! Keep doing what u guys r doing!!
-
AvidpodlistenerGreat showAs a lifelong talk radio and audio story listener, this podcast has the “goods”. Starts with the host and the voice and the cadence etc etc. Not under produced and not over produced, but right where it needs to be. Love the pace, topics and overall storytelling. Worth the 5 stars and worth your time!
-
Savgagirl1983Love the show!!I came upon your podcast as I was looking for something to listen to besides a book or music at work!! Thank you for making these podcast I love them and it gives me something fun and enjoyable to listen to at work and you make the 10 hours past quickly!!

Fromthe208Daily PassengersI stumbled on this podcast a couple weeks ago and was instantly hooked! I’m a history nerd and love learning things on all these places. I really loved the St. Louis season specifically the episodes on the Lemps and The Exorcism. Season 3 is really good as well and really peaks my Criminal Justice background. Troy and Cody have become my daily passengers as I drive around making my deliveries. The banter with the outro is hilarious but I definitely like the shorter one for the current season. Keep up the great work and I am looking forward to getting Troy’s books on the St. Louis Exorcism as well as The Axe (Ax) Murders.
-
Ganny of 8Definitely not free speech advocatesThe actual story telling is pretty good. The banter after the story seems to always make jabs at X, Elon Musk, federal bureaucratic reductions, etc. If you believe in free speech or don’t want others political beliefs inserted into your life, this might not be the show for you.
-
givemeacoldoneUsed to love this.I still think Troy is a very good storyteller (even got over the know it all persona), but turn it off as soon as Cody joins. I don't know if it’s the age difference, but it seems to take a dive into juvenile banter. A lot of upcoming events, self promotion and well, arrogance. Even though I never really cared for Cody’s questions, they usually led to more information on the story. Now, it’s like he didn’t listen to the topic and tries to jump in more, it’s frankly annoying. I used to be a Patron, buy books but just can’t anymore. The focus has shifted to shorter stories, promoting merch and events, an almost ‘we don’t need you’ anymore attitude, laughing at lower reviews instead of listening to feedback. I see it happen with other podcasts that gain a massive following, then content suffers as egos inflate. It’s a shame.

Cindy13❤️I just discovered your showI really like your show. It’s a welcome distraction while at work. Thanks

EshelawnLots of historyI began listening to this show for the history, stayed for the stories. The hardest part of listening to it however is the pretentiousness that Troy Taylor exudes in every episode. Flippantly dismissing anything he finds to be inaccurate he speaks as if he is the end all be all for anything paranormal. If you don’t exactly stand where he stands on every topic you are not only ignorant but incapable of intelligent thought.
-
alwayscarolina1984Love the show!I love y’alls show. I stumbled on it by accident. I saw Troy on a documentary on titanic. I love his book without a trace and am looking forward to reading part 2. I love listening to the story and then listening to the discussion. Most podcasts just tell the story and that’s the end. I someday would love to come to a event of yours. I live in Indiana so I am close. Maybe someday I’ll make it! Love you guys
-
wendyaleaceBest show I’ve stumbled upon in a long timeAs someone with ADHD, I’m not easily captivated by podcasts, even though I love them when I find the ones that I, um… love! I really love this one! Troy is an incredible researcher and storyteller, and there are no ads that I have to stop and skip through! And it’s still free. 🥹 I can’t tell you how special that is, even though I completely understand the necessity to have ads. I also enjoy the discussions involving Cody, even though normally that’s the kind of thing I can’t hang with! The combination of detailed, historical true crime and hauntings is really up my alley. Thank you so much, guys! I’m way out west in California, but I hope I can make it to one of your events someday. **addendum: they do have some ads, but very few compared to most others I listen to for free**

tiger mum2123Basically reading Wikipedia and taking credit for it.I thought the writing for this podcast was really good. When I listening to Barbara Potts, I googled the story and then started reading the Wikipedia story out of interest. As I reading it, the story in the podcast was following it word for word. I kid you not… the podcaster is basically just reading the Wikipedia entry for the case. Don’t believe me? Read the Barbara Potts Wikipedia entry and then listen to the podcast. Identical except a couple words changed here and there. Rip off artist.

ElidyeGo out-tro!!!Good day! I love listening to ya’ll’s show! I’m on season 3 episode 8…Cody, you are being heard!! 🤣🤣the out-tro isbimportant! But I love the teasing and banter… keeps me tuned in to the very end! I thoroughly enjoy the show. The history is awesome and the legends are great. The relationship between ya’ll makes it seem you’ve known each other for a liftetime! Thank you!

Boymomma3Wonderful story telling & educational & realistically creepySeason 4 episode 6 The birth of Jazz and the Red Light district I’m loving the season all about New Orleans. Question: Troy when you mentioned that the right light district in Chicago was called the levee, do you think that Don McLean may have been referring to the brothels being closed up, I don’t know the history of the song, but that came to my mind when you said that. Thank you for all the great stories I started enjoying Troy when he wrote Haunted Decatur and introduced us to haunted Decatur tours! His story telling has grown and become something that really grabs me. His voice is soothing. He draws the listener in. He doesn’t try to fake a story or make it hokey. Thank you Troy for saying it, finally ORBS are light reflecting off dust!!! Yes!!!
-
TajannahLove it!Love Troy's voice and story telling. Gotta admit...I only listen to his part. I skip the chit chat at the end. Edit: What's with the weird background music? He's got a great voice! Doesn't need the weird knocking sounds.
-
DhakducjBecome an unofficial tour guideI listened to the New Orleans season in preparation for a friends trip to the Big Easy and astonished them with all the knowledge I had learned from this podcast. Thanks to Troy and Cody I was dubbed the “tour guide” of our group. I love the format - if you’re short on time you can just listen to the monologue but otherwise you can stick around for the chit chat after the monologue to really cement the facts in your mind and get a little something extra. They don’t just regurgitate the same rumors and myths propagated by other tour companies - they research and verify using primary sources. Can’t recommend enough!
-
EmberdreagonMehSo disappointed in this show. The actual talk about the various places is around 20-25 minutes on average. The rest of these is just two guys talking about other things spooky related. I was really looking forward to the stories from New Orleans because I love the city, and know it’s history. What a letdown.
-
loguesmom82So fun!I recently took a quick birthday trip to New Orleans to visit St Louis Cemetary when I came back I was still itching to know more about New Orleans I found this podcast that did an entire season on it! So incredibly knowledgeable and fact checking. Not to mention the countless other seasons they have about spooky haunted places. It’s a solid 10 for me. Solid 10.
-
Arya1862Oddly inspiringI found this podcast several years ago when Troy was on Astonish Legends. Not long after I started listening to the Villisca season. Then went back to the St. Louis season. As at the time I was living in St. Louis and knew nothing of the local paranormal history. Been hooked ever since. This podcast is great. A perfect blend of historical facts and spooky paranormal. Something I appreciate as both a history nerd and paranormal nerd. The hosts have great chemistry. I try and get everyone to listen to this show and have been pretty successful! Getting my spouse, best friend, and several co-workers to listen regularly. The show has even inspired a cross stitch design that I created! It’s one of my favorites that I have designed or stitched, based of the “Morbid Curious”. Can’t say enough good things about the show, and please keep up the good work!
-
whocaresjimIt’s great!Only complaint is the new habit of adding all the sound effects, those need to stop
-
Ammie DHaunts & HistoryI was skeptical at first (like all good ghost hunters should be) but was hooked after the second episode. Living locally I enjoy hearing the history of the spots and legends and lores that go along with the supernatural occurrences. Cody and Troy work well together although (and maybe this has changed as I am still in early episodes) I wish Troy would let Cody speak a bit more. This podcast is informative, fun and inquisitive and well worth the stars and follows you give to it! If you like ghostly happenings, stories and the history behind them then this is the podcast for you!
-
Wrightb71Can’t MissAll caught up and love to listen to Cody and the villain of the Files of the Unexplained. Started with the New Orleans season and haven’t missed one since!
-
Unbiased Review11History and BeyondGreat podcast. Love the Historical approach and investigative truth lended to the Haunts, Legends, and Lore. Great fun!!!!
-
GreyGoblin6Must listen if you like spooky historyI love this podcast! I’m always looking for a show that combines history with a hint of spooky and this is it. It feels very well researched, Troy very much seems to love telling each story and respects that most of these “ghost stories” are about real people. He balances respect and excitement very well. I’m still playing catch-up (almost done with season 3) but I can already see SO much improvement with Cody. His enthusiasm is infectious. He also has a voice that matches his face more than anyone I’ve every seen.
-
J9223Listen. Just listen!I found this podcast about 3 weeks ago. I work alone as a mobile dog groomer so Cody and Troy are now my daily coworkers and I cannot stop. I am coming up on the end of season three and cannot get enough. I love the combination of history, legend, and folk lore! …and yes Troy I listen to the end. Keep up the killer work I’ll be sure to keep binging!
-
Disneyland DonnaThe podcast that doesn't disappoint!!Always a good listen… Troy and Cody do such a great job… I look forward to each and every episode… thank you for all your hard work… I know it's not easy you always do such a great job, so interesting… thanks again👋🏻💕Donna
-
matpool84Awesome Podcast and love learning about the history and hauntingI love the podcast and was especially fascinated by the Exorcist episodes. The topics covered in the episodes are wide ranging and engaging. I am currently working my way through season 3. Learning about the local region and also events that have happened nationwide is interesting to learn about. I am a definite fan of the podcast.
-
cinnamonmochacowgirlHi!I found the podcast a few weeks ago. I like history and paranormal things… although one experience with a ghost hunt years ago has convinced me that I will not do that again. Great interactions between Cody and Troy… although some of the humor leaves me groaning… then smiling. Cody does a great job asking probing questions and Troy does great research… AND decided today to become a Patreon member. I started listening from the beginning episode… and didn’t care about the early sound quality… the subject is the thing. Also, I have skipped Valisca and the Exorcist seasons for now… a little too creepy for me…. Rock on Guys!
-
Candi Ma’amNever gets old…Your podcast sets the bar high for all other podcasts!!! Troy-your passion for telling stories with as much truth and accuracy as possible is refreshing and rare, you are equal parts sleuth and storyteller and I never get bored listening to the podcast! Cody-I have listened from the beginning, the quality of the podcast gets better every season as you learn and grow, and your commentary and questions are just as important to the podcast as Troy’s stories, you never fail to make me chuckle out loud or get answers to questions I want to ask! Can’t wait for the rest of the season, my only regret is that I am all caught up so I have to find something else to listen to while waiting for the next episode to drop, and so far I haven’t found anything comparable to American Hauntings!!! Thanks for all you do!!!
-
HBD66Great storytellingLove this podcast. Troy is a legit expert on the paranormal, and tells stories with a lot of detail and heart. I love that the seasons are themed, so we get a broad spectrum of related stories. I also adore the banter in the second half of the show. Keep up the good work!
-
ScarletsvoodooMyrtles PlantationI loved the new episode about the Myrtles Plantation. I have heard so many stories about this place and it was really interesting to hear the truth. Thank you for the deep dive it was really interesting.
-
Groundhog RancherJust what the gravedigger ordered!I have listened to the show since episode one and have enjoyed every minute of it. I work at a historic cemetery in Southwestern Illinois and the podcast makes the long summers on a mower more bearable. The content is always well researched, informative, and entertaining. The conversation between Troy and Cody adds to the story and really feels like hanging out with old friends.
