spenjwilliMust Listen to Theatre PodcastI am so incredibly happy that this podcast has returned from its hiatus to bring us thoughtful, well-researched, and entertaining musical theatre commentary through an academic lens. Jimi and Tommy’s passion for the history of musical theatre and its current state, at both a professional and amateur level, comes through so clearly in their conversations and is fascinating to listen to. This podcast is anything BUT a flop!

marspowrReally enjoyable! This podcast is so good! Please do an episode on “Parade” at some point. It seems right up your guys’ alley. 😊
-
Prezi HenzSplendid, just splendid!I’m always looking forward to each new episode. Just a fun hour of casual commentating on musicals with sprinkles of new information all throughout. A podcast that always offers something new and fresh, even when it covers musicals everyone has heard about.

JarrodactorThis show is so highly underratedThe amount of knowledge that you two lovely gents have given me, is astounding. Thank you so much for this show. So much of my love for musicals is based on ‘this is fun music’ or ‘I remember this from...’ etc, but then you two come along and explode my brain. I hope you know that the work and effort you put into this podcast is really appreciated and acknowledged. Something this fun is usually not filled with such good substance. Thank you thank you thank you for all you do.

jpavlofskySo good!!I’ve been a musical theatre fan since I was in elementary school and now I perform in shows locally. The deep dives that the guys take into each show are so good! Funny and informative at the same time. My favorite!
-
cruftonDeepThey go deep with their intelligent analyses, and are articulate in their disagreements, always spoken with joy and friendship; qualities that are currently rare and admirable. Very cool. I have to say, though, Jimi’s comments are always intelligent, sophisticated, knowledgeable and deep. Tommy’s are .....

veccbMy Musical Theater EscapeI have loved every episode I have listened to! The hosts go in depth and discuss aspects of shows (from plot to behind the scenes) I had never considered before. I have only listened to shows that talked about musicals I have seen (since I refuse to listen to soundtracks of shows I haven’t seen) so I’m not sure what that listening experience is like. I appreciate that the two hosts often disagree which provides good perspective. Love this show!

BriBriC95Best podcastThis review is long overdue. I’ve loved Broadway for years, but this podcast has given me so much insight. Not to mention they have me laughing out loud often! All my support to these guys! P.S. I still think we should be called the sipsters lol
-
MidwestEllenLate to the partyBeyond excited to have found this podcast! Makes work so much more enjoyable. Also, I recruited my sister-in-law into the fandom! Started from the beginning so not fully caught up yet but will continue to rave about this podcast to anyone who enjoys musical theater!!
-
AdaumbelleI'll drink to that 🥂The amount of knowledge Jim & Tomic have for musical theatre could fill their own encyclopedia volume! The way they dissect a show is like sitting front & center in a theatre. Love this podcast.
-
booklover960Love!!So informative and fun - i sent my brother the Gypsy episode since he’s studying it in class. The Shrek episode taught me so much
-
cm62439RetreadThey don’t watch the shows. They just read the wiki article.
-
Croft mansionI love this so much!I love the different perspectives between the UK vs USA. And how they show their disagreements and have good explanations of everything. They do the research and it shows.

Random Dancing!!!!!!!!!Funky Fun TimesIt’s a funky fun time. I like the podcast it’s fun to listen to. You should listen to it. It’s fun.
-
lonzocosplaysMy favorite theatre podcast!!!!I adore this podcast. It has helped me not only understand the shows that I love better but appreciate them more. I’m doing my best to educate myself on music theory and other more technical tings that shows use but I’m still a teenager who doesn’t really have a great way to do that and this podcast has helped me with that a ton, so thanks!!
-
Me😶😐😑WowI love this podcast and everything about it. It’s always so deep and you guys are very caring. I am a younger part of the broadway.com generation, and I have an obsession with Dear Evan Hansen. And like you said in your Heathers episode, I love it because I relate to it, I love the characters and because it just goes really deep in my heart. So I was wondering if maybe you could do a DEH episode? Love the show so much !!!

mcal321This is the best dog walking Podcast!!In the best way possible, this is my favorite podcast to listen to while walking my dog. It’s a podcast that feels like it’s made just for me. And with my crazy schedule, walking the dog is the only time I get just for me in any given day. These two talk and banter like old friends who have such a high respect for each other’s difference of opinion, it’s like me and my friends talk with each other. I love the insight to theater as a younger generation than myself. There isn’t anything I don’t love about this podcast. Thanks guys!!!
-
Manders226Listening AbroadI’m in love with this podcast. I’m a freelance director currently living abroad in Thailand where there is no theatre, especially musical theatre. Listening to this while I’m at the gym makes me feel like I’m out after a show with my theatre family. I often find myself wanting to pipe in my two-cents. Thanks for keeping this theatre dork sane!
-
SunshineReaderFun and in-depthI love how deep these guys dive into the musicals. I'll listen even if I'm not familiar with the musical because their discussions are so thoughtful and interesting.

kelly lin hayesInspiring passion is infectious!I’ve been listening to this podcast since *checks watch* #41 the heathers podcast and I have no idea why I’ve waited so long to write a review. Jimmy and Tommy’s passion comes through strong in their, sometimes 2 or 3 or even 4 hour long podcasts. And for a theatre nerd who needed something to listen to in her all architecture no musical theatre college, it kept me connected and sane. This podcast has been with me to Ireland and Copenhagen and everywhere in between. I would attribute this podcast as one of the deciding factors to switch into set design for musical theatre and inspiration for my own podcast. Their informative yet energetic musings on the various shows that they cover has inspired countless side projects of mine (including, the last five years, 35mm etc.) and I will never be able to thank these two enough for providing what no other musical theatre podcast has been able to give me. Pure passion. I am so incredibly proud of the inclusion into the broadway podcast network, you certainly deserve it. 100/5 stars would recommend to everyone I know.

soupy5555Such a fanI love this show! I’m a musical theater junkie with season tickets to five different companies and I do costumes for high school shows. This is so much fun to listen to. Definitely makes me want to see the shows again (and again and again).
-
CheeseyMoosicalsSending love from the cheesey side! From one musical podcast to another, this is wonderful and I love listening! Keep being great! 🧀
-
StarkidpianoFun and Informative!I’m a massive musical theatre fan, and Jim & Tomic’s Musical Happy Hour is a great podcast for fans. I’ve learned so much about different shows, and have started listening to different albums and cast recordings because of the musicals highlighted (like Ghost Quartet and Evita). Keep up the good work!
-
queenbeemarian1Too fun!I love your discussions! Just listened to the Brigadoon episode and really enjoyed listening to a Scottish point of view. My only quibble is the occasional incomplete perspective due to your age - I'm an oldie who has been around to remember How to Succeed, for example, when it was new and a total satire of the times. Other than that sort of thing, I think you are both right on the money. Keep it up!
-
Ilana-BeanSmart and Sassy Theater TalkI look forward to each new episode! This podcast has gotten me into a bunch of new shows and gotten me out and seeing live theater more. I love Jim and Tommy’s commentary - it helps me see old shows in a new light find new ones. Great for when you just want to let your inner theater nerd out.
-
TallactorguyEnjoyable even when I disagreeWhen I subscribed to the Musical Theatre Mash YouTube channel a couple of years ago, I heard Tommy talk about this podcast, but I never got around looking for it. Then I watched most of the videos on that channel and was disappointed that new ones weren’t coming. Finally the itch was scratched when I found the podcast and began listening to it. I’m making my way through the past episodes, enjoying the discussions of shows I know well, at times totally disagreeing or hearing slightly off-base facts, but not minding because the discussion is so stimulating. Eventually I’ll start with the musicals I don’t know, though there are fewer of them, and of course I will devour new episodes as they come. And I will hope for discussions of some favorites that haven’t been talked about yet.
-
jknthegayLong Time listener!Hey there! Been listening since episode one! (Been watching Tommy on YouTube even longer!) this is my favorite podcast! I even love when you Gus go on your tangential conversations that have nothing to do with the show you’re talking about! Glad to see you guys are finally back!! From Jonathan (Jonsingsbway)
-
silverariHighly entertaining and informative!I have fallen in love with this podcast and am currently obsessed with it, going back into the archives and slowly working my way through every episode. I discovered Tommy via Musical Theater Mash on YouTube and was hooked from the first video I watched. His and Jimi’s commentary into each show is both hilarious and informative. This is definitely a podcast to follow if you love musical theatre!
-
SR😊😬This is the best! What I really loved about this show was using your guys’ commentary and thoughts to inspire our own conversation. My mom and I listened throughout a 25 hour road trip and had a lot of fun talking about musical theatre things we had never talked about together! It was so much fun to debate each other and agree and disagree with your guys’ opinions! And it helps that you guys are hilarious! Please keep doing this! Forever!!
-
Bean105Heck Yes!This podcast kicks butt. I can’t get enough of musical theatre history and discussion! I hope these boys come back and talk about more musicals because I miss them!

matthewhedrickPLEASE COME BACK!!!Please

the jamifyA True GemJim and Tommy are both such charasmatic and intelligent men. I never thought I could listen to someone go on about a musical for so long, but now I'm begging for more. Even if I haven't seen the show before I listen to its episode, I still enjoy the ep. (Although I do recommend checking out the show first if you can.) (orrent-tay it-yay on-yay uotube-yay) Cheers!

MajesticMaggie54Mean Girls B-Way!!!!Do a mean girls review!!!
-
drtelnet3I really don’t like that they throw dirt on the musicals
-
kelliewamsMakes the gym enjoyableI have so many new songs to add to my repertoire after only listening to the first twenty episodes or so. And a new understanding of musicals that is never heard of or knew I needed to know more about or knew I needed to see (haven’t seen Fiddler yet, sue me). But I also legitimately laugh when at the gym listening to this or get chills during a particular snippet of a song. Just good knowledge and good fun. Also... there’s no Once podcast yet... and you guys distinctly say you’d get on that in 2016. Let’s go guys. I need this discourse.

smita.patibandaProbably my favorite thing ever.I listen to so many podcasts and never loved one enough to write a review. I am filled with warmth and love after listening to an episode. It reminds me that the world is a magical place.

JSpence16I’m in LoveJust stared listening to this podcast (I know I’m a little late to the party), and I love it so much!! I was missing Tommy’s videos on YouTube and was so happy to discover he had a podcast that was still ongoing! And discovering Jim has been a lovely surprise as well! They work so well together and have great insight into the subject they’re discussing, and I have just had a blast combing through their older episodes! Can’t wait for more:)
-
Chrissy WoodThe best musical theatre podcast out there!Jimmy and Tommy are so amazing at taking a musical and not only discussing the history, purpose and music but breaking down the importance of themes, characters and plot in the world. Perfect balance of incredibly interesting discussion and humor. Often times I have not listened to or seen the musical but I am able to follow along and leave looking up the show on Spotify.
-
logantabesCome to the Happy Hour!Okay. So this review is long overdue from me. Here goes: Unfortunately, I came to this podcast late in the (happy) hour several months ago, and I’ve gradually binge-listened to the entire archive of episodes. And I am here now, and I’m a FAN! I just want to send Jimi and Tommy my love and support. I am huge musical theatre fanatic and have been for the better part of my life. Since I often find I’m much more passionate than many of my ‘theatre’ friends, discovering this podcast was like finally finding two people who are on my level! Musical Theatre Happy Hour is aptly named because it feels exactly as if you’re having drinks with two of your most knowledgeable theatre-obsessed friends: the atmosphere feels welcoming and fun and as the episode unfolds the conversation becomes deeper, more discursive, insightful, interesting and always very informative. I’ve been recommending it to my friends and fam and will continue to do so. And anyone browsing reviews to decide if this is a podcast for you, it is. Subscribe. J&T, I’ve gathered that both of you are theatre artists with busy lives, but as long as you keeping making this podcast I’ll keep listening! Cheers! Logan Tabor

LaurathedinosaurMy favorite podcastCan’t wait for new episodes!

ichheissedan1512My Favorite PodcastI’m not lying when I state that this podcast truly is my favorite. I mainly listen to it in the gym, when I witness all the other dude-bros are jamming to sick beats to get them pumped, and I’m (joyously) listening to two gays discuss Browadwayyyyyyyyy! But seriously, please never stop recording.
-
NellmonsterLove it!I love this podcast! I enjoy listening to it and I like hearing the different opinions on different shows.
-
A little disappointed 😔The podcast I look forward to every week!I have listened to this podcast since it first came out and ever since I have been hooked. Jimmy and Tommy have terrific insights into every musical they discuss and I look forward to this podcast every week. I love that they do both popular musicals and less well known musicals, like The Scottsboro Boys. Truly something every musical theatre lover should listen to.
-
spanza8Can't Stop ListeningI'm quite a bit older than these two intrepid podcasters, but I find their show infectious. Part criticism, part education, and all fanboy, their love for the medium of musical theatre oozes from every episode. I'm a wonky podcast listener, but this is one of my personal favorites. If you appreciate musical theatre you will love this show.
-
septembriseurThe podcast I was searching forI was hoping against hope that I could find my dream podcast: a warm, chatty, enthusiastic, in-depth, and high-production-values look at musical theater. This is such a weirdly specific want that I wasn't sure there was anything out there. But there IS, and it's THIS. The dynamic between Jimi and Tommy is podcast-perfect, and they combine a great sense of humor and a willingness to love things with a commitment to tackling the problematic parts of shows. I started out listening to their episodes on shows I love (... mostly Sondheim...) but ended up getting sucked into episodes on shows I know nothing about. (One nitpick: Les Mis is not about the French Revolution! I'm sure that'll be cleared up in the inevitable Les Mis episode, which I await with glee.)
-
ebretzGreat!I'm glad to have somewhere to go when I finish listening to a musical and want to talk more about it.
-
REReaderSo much fun!I found this podcast when poking around, looking for something to listen to while I chased a deadline, and I am having the best time catching up on all the episodes. It's both intelligent and funny--always great to hear people who know what they're talking about discussing something I'm interested in!
