DizzyLizzy1013Listened While Getting a Tooth ExtractedI had been dreading this appointment, but with Alie in my ear, I was able to stay calm and distracted while having some major dental work done. Thanks Alie! š¤ š¦·š§Ŗ

PostToastyWait, I Know That Voiceā¦!The aphant in me knew your voice. It was driving me bonkers. Youāre our household best friend from Brainchild, always coming in with the cool science facts. Since then, I thought you were so cool on TV that I tuned into an episode of Ologies with Katie Mack and loved it. Then I found the Maritime Archaeology episode, and it completely blew me away. It touched on so many points I work with in maritime software. Thanks for such a wonderful show! I havenāt listened to Smologies yet, but I will with the kids.

GTLabsRatAn overdue thank you and five-star reviewI've listened to Ologies for years now, and today, when the latest episode wouldn't download, I felt what it would be like if I couldn't listen again. It felt...not good. Fortunately it was only a momentary glitch in space-time so all's well and I'm learning about seaweed now just like the universe and Alie intended, but it reminded me that it was past time to leave a five-star review of this gem and say thank you. So now that's fixed too!

kap1eCame for the bugs, stayed for everything else! This podcast is like gently flipping over a log expecting to find a handful of rollie-pollies or maybe a millipede (wonderful things), but instead, finding those lovely critters, a salamander, and the infectious excitement of passionate people talking about anything and everything. The highlight of my commute each week

AC77777This is a hard one to rateI love this show for the content, as a scientist and a science-enthusiast. BUT I know Alie filters out potential guests who would share or repost any racist or sexist content, AS SHE CLEARLY SHOULD! Yet she doesnāt do this with guests who share or repost content that I and many other Jews would consider antisemitic. Itās been so disappointing and disheartening to see. So just something to keep in mind.

hou756Dr Wes Ely is terrificWonderful episode highlighting those that are helping those with Long COVID and other infectious associated conditions. Thank you for a great podcast

LeoFlashThe Podcast I Wish Iād MadeAlie is so similar to me itās a bit scary! But sheās a clearer thinker than I am, which is why she has the brilliant podcast podcast and I have trailed off on my own. Curious about the study of something? I would bet thereās an episode for it! Curious about things in general? This is the podcast for you! Extremely informative, entertaining, and sometimes laugh-out-loud funny, Alie asks the questions of the experts that you wish you could ask, even some youād never think of but now that she asked, you really want the answer! Love the podcast, love Alie!

LuhlaniLife changingAlright Alie I know youāre reading this, buckle up for a long one! This podcast has literally saved and changed my life. I was first recommended Ologies by my therapist last year in the wake of a really devastating breakup. I was more depressed than I have ever been - unhappy with most aspects of my life; Ologies was something fun, entertaining, informative and inclusive that I could enjoy with the low energy I had at the time. Since then, I have started from the very beginning and listened to each and every episode and I cannot overstate the profound impact it has had on me. My life is so different now - I took the plunge and got a great new job, I have taken a few solo trips, I made new friends, I plan to join the peace corps and I have already taken some volunteering opportunities (also actively trying desperately to volunteer with the NHMLA which was my favorite museum as a kid, hopefully I will make the list soon!) and all of this is heavily influenced by listening to Ologies. Every episode of this podcast is like the best pep-talk from your cool parent that makes you feel ready to pick yourself up, then take on the world and achieve everything you want to do in life. As a person in the science field myself, I have so much appreciation for the way Alie disseminates really complex information. She has so much respect, humor and empathy, it is impossible to listen to her zeal and not get immediately sucked into whatever she is talking about - no matter how seemingly boring the topic may be. I know that if it is on Ologies, itās worth a listen. I have never recommended anything - books, movies, tv shows, anything - as much as I have recommend Ologies to others in my life. To know Ologies is to love it, and it is now something I speak about often with my friends and family. If you are at all on the fence about listening to Ologies, please do it - you will not regret it. It just might change your life the way it changed mine. Alie, thank you so much for the work you do, the love and knowledge you spread, and how much of yourself you give to the world - you are such a gem of a human being, you are the pod dad we all deserve. PS. I also live in NorthEast LA (Eagle Rock) and Alie you have basically become my cryptid; whenever I am in public in the area I am hoping to catch a glimpse of you. Maybe someday we can be friends (:

Matt from WellingtonWonderful, wonderful, wonderfulAs someone who is managing long term pain issues, my doctor recommended that I listen to this podcast about pain with Dr. Rachel Zoffness. I was skeptical, but obliged. Well, that was incredibly eye opening and I wish I had learned that a decade ago, but we play the cards weāre dealt. Amazing episode. I dare say it may change my life. And, in the meantime, I learned about this podcast that I also wish I had learned about years ago. It is beyond amazing. It has made my hour and a half commute tolerable. Seriously, I canāt wait to drive somewhere so I can listen to more. So interesting, inspiring, and life affirming. You should be proud. I really mean that. All the best from the bottom of the world!

itslilyliketheflowerNew here!Omg Iām enthralled! I love diving deep on all types of subjects while not feeling overwhelmed with information! Alie does such a great job at asking all the questions and finding new things for us to learn about!

Austin.flax5 Stars for the F WordIāve been binging this show for a while now, and not only is it informative, itās also so much fun to listen to. My favorite episodes are when the experts are fans of the show too, itās like listening to two close friends nerd out over bugs or books bound with human skin! all while cursing and talking like youāre overhearing your cool teachers gossiping during lunch. love you internet dad, please keep my brain fed with your beautiful, informative nonsense :)

mogbarreArt school dropout to science doerDear Alie, 3 years ago I began binging your podcast while on my weekly whole sale flower delivery route for a farm I worked for. Your interviews of arctic seals and fireflies brought wonder and joy to the traffic jams, and got me yearning for a deeper understanding of growing sustainable food and the societal issues preventing it from being more widely accessible. I had never thought academia, especially not āscienceā, was something that I was cut out for⦠But your show made it accessible and exciting! After that farm season I decided to go back to school for a bachelors degree in Agroecology (future episode? ⦠might need to be a three-parter). I just turned in my senior thesis and will be graduating with honors next week. Youāve also inspired me to dabble in science communication through illustrated zines, cause whatās the point of science if it canāt been understood by the masses! Anyway. Ive been waiting till officially finishing my degree to tell you how your podcast altered the trajectory of my life. Thanks for being you!

Jenn_gm017I. Love. Ologies.Longtime Ologite here. Alie, my favorite pod-dad, and her guests have filled my brain with knowledge, led me down plenty of rabbit holes, calmed my spiraling mind with a bit of sanity and much needed distraction at times and just entertained me for years. I still cannot get enough. Thank you, Alie. For anyone complaining about āexplicitā, itās in the description as well as in the podcast (š¤¦š¼āāļø)ā¦check out Smologies instead.

MidwifeMareaLearn cool stuff and do important things! There very first Ologies podcast i listened to was about Allieās colonoscopy! Which made me ask my family some questions, go see a GI doc because of what I learned, and schedule the procedure (going soon!). Then I listened to everything including the one about eclipses, which tilted the scales for driving 6 hours with two small kids and my husband. AND GUESS WHAT?? I met Allie on a small beach in Ohio at the eclipse! And I got to be on the podcast! She was supposed to be in Texas! I love all the wild, wonderful, curious, terrifying, delightful things Allie and the ologists teach me. BTW if you want to talk about why the WHO says the midwifery model of care can prevent 80% of maternal deaths, call me - Midwife-ologist here!

Gill NavasinoEnlightenment, Exuberance and DelightAlie Ward provides the world with a ton of enlightenment, exuberance and delight with each episode. (My best mitigation for the worldās chaos.)

Bailey tangenLove this show! I also have a absolute need to hear about cryopedologyHi Alie, I am so so grateful for your creativity, enthusiasm, willingness to inject fun into science, and ask funky questions to amazing guests. I would love love love to hear about cryopedology (the study of permafrost affected soils and permafrost landscape change) on this show. Megan Andersen would be an amazing guest for this! She is a ice and soil reader and ice detective. She studies permafrost affected soils, cryostructures, and cryogenic soil structure. She has some amazing stories from the landscapes below our feet in the remote areas of Alaska and Canada, these landscapes holding 33% of our earths carbon and landscapes that are changing faster than other places on earth. What happens in Alaska doesnāt stay in Alaska- it impacts all of us! We all need to get the lowdown underground on these landscapes that are increasingly vulnerable to obliterating our climateā¦.

Bear102008Oh Why Did I Not Listen Sooner!Love this podcast. I was recommended to listen by a friend a year ago. I always put off recommendations, why, who knows, is there an ology for that? lol Also, hearing about possible pandemics is insane and foreshadowing. Hearing about how bad trump was then and not knowing what the future held for us makes it still so shocking that he was elected agin. Thank you, Alie! I canāt wait to hear all of the episodes!

ClairhayesMedieval snails are so awesomeHad the opportunity to share the Medieval Codicology episode with one of my students who agrees itās awesome. At a school event her mom excitedly revealed her snail fighting a knight tattoo that made me smile so hard. Ologies, creating connections one snail at time.

HarperrosmomGet the party startedIf youāre one to get nervous about going to a dinner party where you donāt know anyone, fear not. Listen to any episode of ologies and you wonāt run out of fun and interesting new facts to bring up. Allie is funny, down to earth, and the best interviewer. There is something for everyone. Allie, if youāre ever in NC would love to host you to have the best dinner party ever.

Staceface1000Most interesting friendI love this podcast! As a chronic multitasker (maybe itās actually ADHD), listening to this podcast while Iām driving keeps me from trying to do other things. Itās not only saved my life in that regard, but the content has me engaged with the world around me and gives me endless cool things to talk about with anyone who will listen.

Crystall sNew favoriteAfter years of people suggesting this pod, I finally gave it a listen. I'm now attempting to cure my fear of spiders, and have years of content to fill my days with! Awesome podā¤ļøš„³

VHXHVH007Entertaining and EducationalAlie and the smart people she invites got me through so many runs. Now that Iām suffering from cannot-enjoy-running-unless-Iām-listening-to-Ologies syndrome. My favorite sections are still the animals. Loved learning about bear butt plugs or flying (descending) porcupines. The rate at which I catch up to older episodes simply cannot keep up with newer weekly episodes, which is a podcast listenerās dream. Love you and your work, Alie, and congrats on being on Jimmy Fallon!!

HeatherBishopI whip my bolas back and forth!Couldnāt help but sing āI whip my bolas back and forthā to Willow Smithās 2011 hit, āWhip my hairā when I heard about the Bolas Spider whipping its sticky globule around to hunt. Anyone want to do a remix?!

PamG85BackfiredSo I work overnights, and was trying to find something so I could have background noise to fall asleep to, and Iāve realized Iām WAY more into sciences than I thought. I usually stay awake to finish the episodes. Iāve gone all the way back to the very first one and am listening to every one. Thank you so much Alie for giving my brain something to focus on while Iām trying to sleep.

bug_embassadorOlogies Helped Cure My ArachnophobiaIāve meant to write this review for a while, but in honor of the new episode about spiders, it felt like the perfect time! I used to be the type of person that was so afraid of spiders I would cry if there was one near me, but this podcast makes every topic so interesting that I couldnāt resist listening to when the episode about jumping spiders when it came out a handful of years ago. It inspired such awe and empathy in me that I started doing my own unofficial exposure therapy to spiders. Now, as I write this, Iām lovingly watching my pet jumping spider chow down on a meal worm. Her name is Bianca, I love her with all my heart. Iāve learned to love not just the charming jumping spider, but all spiders, wasps, and a variety of other insects. Thank you, Ologies and Alie! I truly donāt think Iād have my beautiful girly pop if it werenāt for you!

cheeseburger-catSimply wonderful. For Alie: Hi DadWard, Your show is wonderful. Itās my favorite podcast. I love how you have created the perfect showcase for smarty-pants enthusiasm. Thanks for sharing the laughs, curiosity, and genuinely making my world (and I assume a lot of other peopleās worlds) a little brighter, funnier, and more knowledgeable every Wednesday. For the review readers: This show is wonderful. Go have fun and listen already!

Cheyannabanana77Diverse topics and full of exciting informationOlogies is hands down the coolest podcast around. Every episode captivates my attention and inspires me to learn more. Alie has a gift for taking complex topics and making the easily digestible for everyone to understand.

Presley DavisCoolest podcast ever!!!The science nerd in me is constantly geeking out over this podcast. Itās one of my favorite listens and always so interesting / informative! Thank you Alie for being the coolest host and coming up with this pod š¤

Galaxy GardenActually The Actual BestOlogies is the real life version of being on The Magic School Bus and Alie is like the real life version of Miss Frizzle - I never walk away without learning something cool about this weirdly beautiful (and beautifully weird) world from a teacher who is articulated, welcoming, unapologetically herself, always audibly smiling, endlessly compassionate, and if every person on Earth had her as their teacher, the world would objectively be a better place, especially for us neurospicy folks. Sending a giant āthank youā hug for making this podcast because I get the vibe that sheās a hug person <3

RyderwayObsessedNever get enough of this show. I find myself completely lost in episodes that I thought Iād want to skip. I mean how can a show about trees or basket weaving be fascinating? But they are! Donāt know how you do it, but thank you!
-
WhaleWitchThe Only Podcast You NeedOh hey, itās your whale watch guide who keeps recommending marine biology-themed episodes of her favorite podcast during the tour. I LOVE Ologies! Iāve been listening sporadically since 2020 and have listening obsessively since starting a very boring job several months ago. This podcast is probably the reason Iām still employed and is motivating me to finally go back for my masterās degree! Since you read to the end of the review Iām gonna share a secret: sometimes when Iām bored I imagine what it would be like to be interviewed for Ologies and how I would respond. I hope the topic is orcas. Thanks Alie Ward!

Amanda R, PharmD7 years lateHi Alie! I am graduating from my doctorate of pharmacy program today and wanted to take a moment of time to reflect on how meaningful your show has been to me! This show has been with me from the start of my career. I started listening 7 years ago in undergrad when I was a baby scientist in the lab and needed something to listen to while doing my cell culture. Over time, this show has shaped me into the scientist and pharmacist that I am todayā I truly appreciate the curiosity and dedication you bring to every episode and hope to do the same in my field every day. Apologies for this review being 7 years late, but thank you for all that you do! Canāt wait to hear next weekās episode!
-
@lostinabook;)Spider enthusiast!I am so happy that thereās an official spider episode for ologies! I have always loved spiders and Iāve been trying to win my family over with spiders, but weāll get there eventually. Iām fascinated by how diverse what we consider spiders are! They live on six continents, and come in all shapes and sizes! Thank you for braving the unknown with areneology Alie Ward!
-
KansasbryanAmazing! As a 38 yo this show actually sparks curiosity and wonder like I had as a child! Thank you for letting me feel that again!
-
endofsufferingListening to Araneology while I knitIāve been waiting years for a dedicated spider episode! I love the show and listen every week. Dadward and her dumb questions inspire me every week. Iām getting my masterās in Ecology and my hope is to specialize in arthropods. Spiders were my gateway arthropod and have a special place in my heart. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks!

Pocketful of ColorTears of joyAs a former gifted child who peaked in 5th grade being the only girl who won every science awardā¦this show has re-awakened something in me. My love for science and constant asking of āwhy???ā had been squished out of me almost entirely, but Alie has completely changed that. Her hilarious wit and natural genius, alongside these brilliant guests, is just the most perfectly palatable dish of discourse that I could ever dream of. Thank you, Alie, for simply existing and being a gift to the world. But also thank you for giving the world this truly incredible show. I literally burst into my husbands office today screeching ādid you know pigeons produce MILK?!ā and I am still riding that high, tbh. PS. I wish we could be best friends. Okay, that is all!

LifelongLearnerLeaderChatting with an old friendThis is my go to podcast when I am feeling overwhelmed or emotionally isolated. It brings me a sense of comfort to be part of and intellectual conversation and learn about random things!

Nerrad47Gaza and PalestineI really enjoy the podcast but I have a problem with the sentiment for Palestine. I find it disturbing that podcasters that I like such as you and Cara Santa Maria are so one sided in the conflict in the Middle East. What about the fact that the entire thing going on in Gaza is because terrorists slaughtered Israeli citizens. Terrorists from Hamas who were voted into office by Palestinians and who. Most Palestinians support. And of course these terrorist groups use their own people as human shields and launch missƵes from hospitals and orphanages so when their weapons are taken out they can play the victim because their innocent children were blown up. What is Israel supposed to do? They are being attacked and killed by terrorist groups. And have to protect themselves and fight for their lives.Do you expect them to just give up and not fight against those who are trying to kill them? There is a huge antisemitic undercurrent in liberal ideology and it is supported with lots of money from Arab groups that organize and back up pro Palestinian protests at places like Columbia. So you have an episode in genocide and mass atrocities? Palestine is NOT a genecide. Why donāt you do an episode on terrorism and radical Muslim ideology?

thebeatlesrmeA Good Podcast to Get a Haircut ToWhile on vacation in Slovenia two years ago, I begged my friend DK to cut my hair, and we decided to take a listen to this podcast my friend Sophie had recommended. It took DK an hour to cut my hair, which meant I quickly stopped really listening to the podcast, because I was too concerned about why my friend was only cutting a millimetre of hair at a time. Then I started binging Oologies a couple months ago and I realised that DK was just captivated by the podcast and wanted to extend the haircut an hour. If thatās not a 5-star review, I donāt know what is.

KPTetheredEnjoying So Far! Butā¦Was recommended by a friend when stuck in a perpetual doom spiral. Love that it breaks these bits of life and science down to digestible levels! The rapport Alie has with guests is great! If I had one criticism, the constant context interjections Alie makes in the middle of the conversation are really distracting and throw off the flow of the conversation. A few here and there are fine, but it feels like they happen every 5 minutes and I lose track of what the guest was in the middle of saying. Especially when itās something like a siren in the background ā unless itās completely ruining the audio, not really necessary to throw in an interjection there. Just good for thought! Thanks for what you do.
-
Scooching in HereA Truly Lovely PodcastYou will always learn something new! Alieās voice is so soothing, and sheās relatable, funny, and asks the guests great questions. The guests are very diverse, and every episode is so insightful. Itās a great, feel-good, intriguing podcast and I look forward to each episode!
-
itās not about youhost a little too impressed with herselfI really like the content/subject material but I think more important in audio is the host. I think itās a brilliant brainchild and clearly has a lot of effort put in but the amount of times the host makes thing about herself, appears to think sheās pretty cute and funny, is off-putting and detracts from the subject material.
-
Lucy M.PGreat podcast!Such an interesting podcast! So many different, interesting subjects and the host had a fantastic energy. By the end of the episodes youāve learned so much šš»
